Undergraduate Research Conference
The University of Houston-Victoria School of Arts & Sciences is hosting an interdisciplinary student research conference on Friday, April 14. Projects from any discipline will be accepted, and any topic or theme is welcome for consideration. We are accepting traditional oral presentations as well as posters. We seek proposals from undergraduate students in any area of the liberal arts, humanities, natural sciences or social sciences. Students completing capstone or honors projects especially are encouraged to apply. Oral presentations should be about 15 minutes. Posters should fit in a 48-by-48-inch space.
Special consideration will be given to projects addressing the theme “Crossing Disciplines.” These can be projects that seek to broaden a traditional discipline or discuss more than one academic area. Topics might include ethics and genetics; literature and psychology; rhetoric and public policy; or any other such interdisciplinary topics. As an interdisciplinary conference, we seek discussion about many different disciplines and methodologies.
Call for Papers
Any undergraduate student is eligible to submit a proposal. Please send 50- to 100-word proposals about any topic related to the theme in an email with “Proposal” in the subject line. Both posters and 15-minute oral presentations will be accepted.
Proposals should include the following:
- Project title
- Name of student
- Presenter’s email address
- Category of presentation (oral presentation or poster)
- Faculty mentor’s name and email
- Institution and major
- Short abstract (200+ words, although full papers are acceptable)
Accepted participants will be notified by March 15. A $250 prize will be given for the best presentation as judged by a panel of UHV faculty members.
Questions and submissions should be emailed to Justin Bell.
Deadline: March 1
The conference is free for all undergraduate students and presents networking opportunities with other scholars
