Success with a UHV degree
A UHV degree can help put you on the path to achieving your dreams. Here are a few examples of what some of our students have done with their UHV degrees.
Amy Hatmaker, who earned her bachelor’s degree in humanities with a concentration in history from UHV in 2007, wrote two books reviews that appeared in the spring edition of the Journal of South Texas, a biannual publication sent to all members of the South Texas Historical Association, and published several articles in The International Encyclopedia of Revolution and Protest, 1500 to the Present.
Sally Kallina was named principal of Columbus Elementary School in Columbus in 2009. She earned her master’s degree in administration and supervision in 2002 from the UHV School of Education & Human Development. She also earned her teaching certification from UHV.
Tanya Spiker Michna, who earned her bachelor’s degree in humanities with a history concentration from UHV in 1998, recently published her second novel, “Baggage Claim.”
Cesar Alvarez, who earned his master’s of education in administration and supervision from UHV in 2006, was highlighted earlier this year in the first letter of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for his work with troubled students at his school.
Sandra Wicker Consilio, who earned a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from UHV in 2002, was named the 2008-09 Teacher of the Year at Jane Long Elementary School in Freeport and Elementary School Teacher of the Year in the Brazosport Independent School District.
Heidi Bragg used the Master of Business Administration she earned in 2009 from the School of Business Administration to move from her career as pharmacy professor to her current job as a Houston-based pharmacy compliance officer with Cardinal Health, a hospital management firm with offices around the country
Lilly Perez used the master’s degree she earned in 2009 from the School of Education & Human Development to become an elementary school counselor in Katy after serving as a kindergarten teacher for two years and a third-grade teacher for two years in the Spring Branch school district.
Lily Monroe, 2005 education graduate, was named 2007-2008 Teacher of the Year at Arizona Fleming Elementary School in Houston.
