All students prior to enrolling in college-level course work must be tested through a state-approved assessment also known as the Texas Success Initiative (TSI). The purpose of the TSI is to assist students in becoming ready to tackle university coursework by ensuring they possess the necessary academic skills in the areas of reading, writing and mathematics. You should note that the results of the assessment will not be used for admissions purposes but only for registration for college level courses. For your convenience, UHV will be administering the ACCUPLACER test (an approved assessment) for any interested prospective UHV students following each Jaguar Day event. Testing will begin promptly at 1:00 p.m. Please click on the following link for registration and payment information. http://www.uhv.edu/testing/accuplacer.aspx

If you have taken the TAKS or any other state—approved assessment, or have high enough scores on the SAT or ACT, please follow this link to see if you may be exempt from one or more parts of the TSI: http://www.uhv.edu/oar/TSI.aspx and look for the “TSI Exemptions” section. If you think you meet one of these exemptions, please verify with the Freshman Advisor Ashlee Wassick by telephone at 361-570-4184 or by e-mail at wassicka@uhv.edu and she will be happy to answer any of your questions.
