Component III: Mentors

Mentor Qualifications and Requirements

Mentors must be currently enrolled in UHV, have a minimum GPA of 2.5, and be willing to commit to at least one semester as a mentor. Upon acceptance into the program, mentors are required to complete mentor training. Weekly communication with mentees is expected.

During training, mentors will develop the skills necessary to communicate effectively online, solve problems, make decisions, build relationships, handle cultural diversity, and utilize the tools necessary for E-Mentoring. Mentors will:

  • Encourage mentees to attend UHV events & activities
  • Act as a guide & resource
  • Serve as a role model
  • Provide support & motivation
  • Encourage mentees to seek help

Mentors may choose to invite their mentees to off-campus events. At the beginning of the program, both mentor and mentee will be required to complete a “Release and Indemnification Agreement.” UHV is not responsible for travel expenses related to mentoring conducted off campus (unless prearranged and approved by UHV).

Note: The Sign-up form requires a signature and must be printed out and submitted via fax, mail, or submitted in person.
