Component II: Summer Academy (Certificate I)
The Summer Academy is designed to focus on pedagogical issues and instructional design. The academy will consist of 24 hours seat time with 3 days face-to-face and online for 2 weeks.
Communications in the course
- Asynchronous Communications in Online Courses
Pedagogy of online discussion and other asynchronous communication will be discussed in this session. - Synchronous communication & Adobe Acrobat Connect
Pedagogy of having online virtual meeting with Adobe Acrobat Connect will be discussed in this session.
Learning activities
- Collaborative Learning and Assessment
Pedagogy of using collaborative activities in online courses for student learning and assessment purposes will be discussed. - Student Engagement in Online Courses
Strategies of engaging and motivating the students in online courses will be discussed.
Course design
- Instructional Design for Online Course I
Student needs analysis, course objective development, and course storyboard design will be discussed in this session. - Instructional Design for Online Course II
This session will discuss how to choose appropriate technologies and tools to develop the course materials and deliver the course content, as well as course evaluation.
Learning systems
- Overview of Title V Issued Software and Hardware
In this session, the faculty members will hear an overview of all the hardware and software they receive at the beginning of the Summer Academy .
Course content development
- Internet-ready Files for Online Courses
This session will discuss the file formats that are compatible with WebCT, and demonstrations of basic authoring tools such as Microsoft Word, or Adobe Acrobat will be given.
Online course management
- Workload Management in Online Courses
In this session, strategies and resources of managing reasonable workload for both instructors and students as well as keeping organized in online courses will be shared and discussed.
