About the Grant
The grant, Improving Hispanic Educational Attainment in South Texas: Building Community among the High School, the Community College, and the University, will address four distinct problems affecting CBC's ability to provide needed services and programs aimed at keeping the educational pipeline open to Hispanics, low-income and traditionally under-represented students who attempt a baccalaureate degree. It has three components that challenge the lack of awareness to educational opportunities, the lack of access to degree programs, and the lack of the institutions' capacity to offer opportunities with flexibility in class attendance.
Developing this system of support and utilizing technology to enhance access to degree programs at the community college and at the university will improve transfer possibilities for many students. The grant will lead to four major outcomes.
- A significant number of high school students enrolling at CBC;
- A significant number of students transferring from CBC to UHV;
- A significant number of students earning degrees at CBC and UHV; and
- More faculty with well-developed instructional skills compatible with instruction via distance technology
The implementation of the grant plays a key role in attaining success for the project's Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP). By working together in this Title V activity, both institutions will address the significant problems identified in the CDP through the formation of five unified goals. A goal for the partners is to collaborate in promoting educational and economic development in the region . Through this cooperative grant application, CBC and UHV agree to successfully complete the remaining four goals for the cooperative arrangement to remediate the problems discovered in the CDP.
