Students needing to take the ACCUPLACER, either by appointment or by administration, should complete the following steps:
- Call Christy Esse at 361.570.4288 to sign up for the test. She can also be reached by email. Email Christy Esse
- Pay the $30 non-refundable testing fee by check, cash, or money order (check or money order should be made payable to UHV). Students are encouraged to pay the fee in person, since testing space is limited. Examinees will not be allowed to test unless the testing fee has been paid.
- Arrive to your appointment or test administration on time. Examinees who arrive late may not be allowed to test.
- Bring a valid form of identification (e.g., current driver’s license, military ID, passport, state-issued ID card). Examinees who do not present a valid photo ID will not be allowed to test.
Things to Know Before Taking the ACCUPLACER
Only prospective UHV or VC students can take the ACCUPLACER. Students should bring their seven-digit student ID number to testing.
All incoming freshman attending a public higher education institution in Texas are required to take one of the four exams approved for the Texas Success Initiative (TSI), unless exempted. Exams that are TSI approved include the ACCUPLACER, ASSET, COMPASS, and THEA (or the Quick THEA). For frequently asked questions about the TSI, please visit UHV’s TSI PLAN.
Students must wait 30 days before re-taking the ACCUPLACER.
The ACCUPLACER is a computer-based exam and also a computer-adaptive test (the next question is determined by how the previous question was answered). Test scores are available upon completing the test and should be interpreted by an academic advisor.
Cell phones (and other electronic communication devices) are not permitted in the testing room. Examinees should leave cell phones at home or in a vehicle. An examinee using a cell phone or possessing a cell phone that rings during the test session will be dismissed, and the scores may be voided.
