TSI Assessment


All incoming college students are required to take the TSI Assessment (unless already exempt). The TSI Assessment is a program designed to help determine college-level coursework readiness in the general areas of reading, writing and mathematics. The TSI Assessment program also will help determine what type of course(s) or intervention will best meet students’ needs to become better prepared for college-level coursework if they are not ready.

 Testing Services offers the TSI Assessment during scheduled administrations and is limited only to students planning to attend the University of Houston-Victoria and/or the Victoria College. NOTE: Students taking the TSI Assessment must complete the Pre-Assessment Activity prior to taking the exam.

Prospective UHV students needing to take the TSI Assessment should complete the following steps:

  1. Complete the Pre-Assessment Activity. (Students can access the Pre-Assessment Activity at www.tsipreview.com/welcome/University-Houston-Victoria .)
  2. Choose a testing date and pay for the exam by visiting http://www.registerblast.com/uhv/exam.
  3. Arrive to your appointment or test administration on time. Examinees who arrive late may not be allowed to test.
  4. Bring a valid form of identification (e.g., current driver’s license, military ID, passport, state-issued ID card). Examinees who do not present a valid photo ID will not be allowed to test.

Things to Know Before Taking the TSI Assessment

Only prospective UHV or VC students can take the TSI Assessment . Prospective UHV students should bring their seven-digit student ID number to testing and proof of Pre-Assessment Activity completion. (UHV Students can complete the Pre-Assessment Activity at  www.tsipreview.com/welcome/University-Houston-Victoria.)

All incoming freshman attending a public higher education institution in Texas are required satisfy Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requirements, unless exempted. For frequently asked questions about the TSI, please visit UHV’s TSI PLAN.

The TSI Assessment is a computer-based exam that is response adaptive (the next question is determined by how the previous question was answered). Test scores are available upon completing the test and should be interpreted by an academic advisor.

Cell phones (and other electronic communication devices) are not permitted in the testing room. Examinees should leave cell phones at home or in a vehicle. An examinee using a cell phone or possessing a cell phone that rings during the test session will be dismissed, and the scores may be voided.
