Things to Know Before Taking the ASSET

Examinees should report to the test site at or before 8:30 A.M. on the day of the test.

Examinees must wait 30 days between each attempt to take the ASSET.

Test results for the reading, elementary algebra, and writing skills will be available to students approximately 24 hours after the test.   Results for the writing essay portion of the test will be returned in approximately two weeks.  Students may receive their scores via mail or by showing their ID to Testing Coordinator Ernest Amador.  Results are also forwarded to the UHV Office of Admissions.

The ASSET is composed of four sections: reading, elementary algebra, writing skills, and writing essay.  Examinees will have 25 minutes to complete each section.

Students who are taking the math portion are allowed to bring a non-programmable calculator, with square root and percent keys. Unacceptable calculators may include, but are not limited to, calculator watches, scientific or graphing calculators, and cell phone calculators.

Cell phones (and other electronic communication devices) are not permitted in the testing room. Examinees should leave cell phones at home or in a vehicle. An examinee who uses a cell phone or has a cell phone that rings during the test session will be dismissed and the scores may be voided.
