Suggestion / Comment

I really like Grammatically Correct but am color blind and therefore have difficulty reading some of it. Please watch your color use and make sure your publication is accessible to those of us who are color blind.

Response

Dear Student,

I was delighted to read that you enjoy the issues of Grammatically Correct, our weekly newsletter on grammar.

Some testing at http://www.vischeck.com/vischeck/ and http://colorfilter.wickline.org/ suggested that the problem with some kinds of color blindness may be mostly with the headings within the grammar tips (titles of sub sections). Headings are certainly important for finding and returning to information within the grammar tip, and we'll change the background color in the heading boxes which should make the headings easier to read for more readers.

If you're having problems beyond the ones described here, would you be willing to write us directly and let us know what they are? We're always interested in improving our materials.

Thank you again for your feedback. We appreciate your time and advice.

Subject UHV Communications e-mails

Forwarded to — Director, Marketing

Suggestion / Comment

Please stop the bombardment of emails from UHV Communications. It's beginning to feel a lot like spam. I understand and appreciate the desire to spread good news and disseminate information, and I do want to know what's going on, but it seems that these messages keep growing in number. Between June 1st and June 25th, we received at least 18 of these emails. That's during only 19 business days. Yes, it's easy to just click Delete, but I don't think this method is effective. Why not consolidate? Combine "NewsWire" and "In the News" and "Press Releases" and other ad-hoc communication emails into a single newsletter and distribute it once a week, at most. And, to make it even more effective and user-friendly, offer an opt-in option...give users the option to subscribe. I think offering an opt-in option may also result in more students (and alumni?) actually reading the news because they could subscribe with their personal, non-UHV email accounts.

Response

I appreciate your concern with the number of communication pieces that were sent during the indicated time frame. Typically, there are about three pieces that go out weekly. We do make an effort to consolidate whenever possible. This was obviously a busy time period, and we wanted to make sure that everyone at UHV was informed. I have asked the communications team to postpone any press releases that are not time sensitive if they already have distributed quite a few that week.

Since these communications are part of a process to keep employees informed, I do not foresee them converted to an opt-in option.

Thank you for submitting your suggestion.
