Having just completed my EdM. I would love to immediately continue working toward my doctorate. How soon does the university plan to begin such a program? I would love to stick with UHV, as they have been wonderful while I completed both my undergrad and graduate degrees!
Response
I am delighted that you had such a positive academic experience at UHV. At this time, UHV does not have the authority to offer doctorate degrees. However, the School of Education and Human Development faculty are interested in partnering with other Texas universities to offer a joint program. This project is in the very earliest stages of consideration and may take a few years to implement.

Suggestion / Comment
I am an UHV student but would like to attend the Bauer Business Career Fair on 12/9/09. However, this career fair is only open to Bauer students. I live in Houston and would like to obtain a job in Houston. Can UHV coordinate with UH so UHV business students can attend the career fair as well?
Response
UHV students have been invited to participate in a limited number of events sponsored by Bauer School of Business, however, funding issues limit UHV student access to UH events. Because UHV and UH are separate entities, each schools student services programs are funded through enrollment and registration fee. One fee in particular, Student Services fees, is the largest source for our respective departments. Because UHV and UH do not share these funds, we are not able to open all of our events to the other's student population. However, when UHV students are invited to participate, the announcement will be posted on the UHVconnect (www.uhvconnect.org) Event Calendar.
UHV Career Services does post other networking events on the UHVconnect (www.uhvconnect.org) website. As of today, the following events are listed but check the website regularly as new events are added often.

Subject — UHV Transcripts
Forwarded to — Registrar
Suggestion / Comment
I just received the transcript from the school. I found that the transcript system did not separate the GPA calculations between graduate courses and undergraduate courses. Because in graduate degree seeking, it is not allowed to use undergraduate courses to represent the graduate degree plan courses. I know many school they have the system to show their degree plan GPAs in their transcript or core GPA categories to match the real concentration field in the school.
Response
Thank you for your suggestion. Our system is set up so that a graduate student receives graduate credit for all courses taken, unless the student has completed a Course Credit Petition to have undergraduate credit assigned to a specific course(s).

I challenge you to take a test. Come up with 5 things that a typical student would have to find on your website and see if any of your administrators can find it quickly. Then you'll know what students face. Just try it and see what happens.
Response
Thank you for submitting your concern. We have continued to make adjustments to the web site based on the feedback we have received from students and the feedback provided to us from Student Solutions. One of our goals is to address user challenges and make the site as easy as possible to use. In an effort to make the site easy to use, we have incorporated a "Popular Pages" feature. Here you can find the most searched pages for future students, current students, faculty/staff and alumni. Please send me the specifics on what you were having difficulty finding. I will be sure to address your challenges as soon as possible. I'm certain that by addressing your concerns, you will help make the site easier to use for others.

When is the university going to get some consistency in its website. many pages still have the old colors and really detract from your overall look. It's quite disconcerting to go from one page on your web to another and be faced with entirely different navigation, along with different colors.
Response
I agree. The original plan was to have the site completely revamped over a period of a few months after the initial launch. Although some portions of the site have been converted to the new design, there is still more that needs to be done. We were challenged in the fall with the number of projects and limited personnel resources. Now that spring classes have begun, addressing the consistency on our web site is a top priority. Marketing and Information Technology will get this done as soon as possible.

Subject — Payment Deadline
Forwarded to — Sr. Director of Student & Academic Services
Suggestion / Comment
I registered today for spring classes and realize registration was open until noon so why on your homepage do you have the deadline for fee payment as the 15th? Doesn't mak any sense to me if students can register until noon, they should be able to pay until noon.
Response
I appreciate your suggestion and understand the confusion that these different dates cause students. We are currently re-evaluating our business practices to better manage fee payment deadlines and student notices.

Suggestion / Comment
On your homepage you say the payment deadline is the 15th yet on the fee payment schedule for the spring says its noon on the 16th. Which is it? You make things so confusing for us because your message varies so much. Even different offices tell us different payment deadline dates — some said the 15th and others said the 16th. It is quite frustrating.

Subject — Promotional Items
Forwarded to — Director, Business Services
Suggestion / Comment
I am concerned about the purchase of promotional items made in China. I believe it would be better to support American businesses by buying "Made in USA" items.
Response
Although we do business with various local small businesses and other suppliers throughout Texas and the U.S. for our needs, we have little control over where they purchase their items. Am supposing that just like most of us, they are always on the lookout for the lowest price suppliers who meet their needs…whether that be from someone who makes the item in the U.S. or China, Mexico, Taiwan, etc. It truly is a competitive global economy today.
