Subject: Diplomas

Forwarded to: Registrar

What is the school policy regarding the request for a copy of diploma? UT at Dallas and a few other universities allow students to request additional copies of their diploma. However, I don't see UHV have a similar policy. Is it possible for me to request additional copies of my UHV diploma?

Thanks in advance for your response to my inquiry.

Response

Thank you for your inquiry. Yes it is possible for you to request additional copies of your diploma. There is a $30 fee for additional or replacement diplomas, and if you will contact the Office of Admissions & Records at (361) 570-4110 [or toll-free (870) 4848 ext. 110], we will be glad to provide you with the request form.

Subject: School of Education Website

Forwarded to: Dean, School of Education

Please review the School of Education website. Many of the pages don't display correctly and text runs outside your boxes. Some of the pages are just difficult to read. Testing pages before going live might be a good option.

Response

Thank you for the suggestion. We are redeveloping our site at the present time, and realize that it is not yet as it should be, but the improvements we are making should be visible soon.

Subject: School of Business Administration Website

Forwarded to: SOBA, Director of Services

Please add a link on the homepage of the School of Business homepage that allows us to go back to the UHV homepage so we can navigate to other information. It is frustrating to have to close the page and then renavigate to back to the UHV site.

Thank you for your feedback on the School of Business website--we appreciate it when our visitors give us opportunities to improve.

Clicking on the "University of Houston-Victoria" logo on any page in the SoBA site, including the homepage, will take you to the UHV homepage. A link to "UHV Home" also appears in the upper right corner of most pages, but as you pointed out, does not appear on the homepage. Based on your feedback, we have now added a link to "UHV Home" to the bottom of the homepage and all subsequent pages.

Subject: Athletic Jerseys on Flag Pole

Forwarded to: Athletic Director

Go Jags! I appreciate the enthusiasm and support that UHV has displayed for our new teams. However, I am a bit unsettled that the University is placing the same emphasis on displaying jerseys on a flag pole as it does in flying our national flag. As a veteran, I think that we take away from the sanctity and reverence that we should have for the U.S. and Texas flags when flying jerseys next the flags. While I can appreciate there is definite devotion by the baseball & softball players, it cannot be compared to the sacrifice of our military men and women who made flying the state and U.S. flags possible.

Why not install a new flagpole in another area that will allow UHV's Athletic department or student organizations to use when flying their jerseys proudly and that will still provide the respect to our national and state flags?

In addition, has anyone given thought to the individual(s) who must be here on campus at sunrise or sunset to hoist a jersey? Wouldn't 8 to 5 be more reasonable?

Response:

I appreciate your suggestions and we will take them under consideration.

Subject: Promoting University of Houston-Victoria

Forwarded to: Marketing Director

Over the last year I have seen newspaper inserts in Houston and in San Antonio promoting higher education opportunities in these urban areas as well as the surrounding areas. Most of the area universities posted advertisements. UHV was not represented in either newspaper. I have noticed publicity pieces on individual UHV programs in some media. Has UHV stopped promoting the institution as a whole? This is a recommendation to the university to increase advertisement for the entire university. Thanks

Response

Thank you for your interest and recommendation that UHV increase its presence in the marketplace. The challenge we face in marketing is to reach our target and make the strongest possible impression with a finite number of marketing dollars. When marketing the university in the Victoria area, there are many feasible options. The small market size allows us to consider purchasing TV, radio, newspaper, direct mail, outdoor and more.

The story changes when you explore the advertising options in a larger market, such as the Houston area. Purchasing mass media (radio, TV, newspaper, outdoor) in a large market is extremely expensive and reaches consumers that may not be our designated targets. The expense is directly attached to the large market size. To efficiently reach potential students in and around the Sugar Land and Cinco Ranch areas, we are using a targeted approach. Direct mail, for example, allows us to use demographic criteria to reach our target.

We are not actively recruiting students in San Antonio, so no advertising dollars are being spent in that market. We could, at some point, test the market to explore the recruitment potential.

This spring, we began testing the Austin market. The initial marketing strategy is to target Austin Community College students using direct mail. Other advertising vehicles may be explored as they make sense in reaching our target.

UHV has not stopped advertising, we are simply using a targeted approach to reach potential students. Please don't hesitate to send me any advertising suggestions you have. I'm always interested in effective ways to reach more potential students.

Subject: UHV Website

Forwarded to: Web Services Manager

I'd like to request that UHV web sites we are expected to open at work, such as the athletics's homepage, not include auto-play video with audio. Please let us have the option of playing these videos when we know we won't be interrupting others.

Thank you.

Response

The auto play feature will be changed so that a user will need to click the picture to hear it.

Thank you for your suggestion.

Subject: Dean's List

Forwarded to: Provost

I see fron the page below that we have a Dean's List for Undergraduate students.

Shouldn't we also reward Graduate students for all their hard work? It just seems a bit unfair.

Subject: WebCT e-mail

Forwarded to: Provost

I was told last semester by my professor that I was unable to email my classmates about conversational and student concerns. He told me that emails were restricted for things that were related to the course. I have recently been informed that students use this tool (email) to let people know about events like baseball and softball games. I am just unsure of all the rules that are instituted on WebCt. If it is true that students can only use that email for class related material, I think that professors need to address that in the beginning of class or put it on their syllabus. I take offense knowing that I was restricted when clearly it is still being allowed. Personally, I feel that since most of students courses are online that we should be free to discuss things and communicate to each other by email. I would hope that the university could respect our only mean of community.

Note: I sometimes feel that my concerns are not being addressed.
