Subject: Shuttle Van
Forwarded to: Provost
My suggestion is that the university explore running a
shuttle van between UHV, UHSSL, and UHCR daily, perhaps
running the round trip two or three times daily. I think a
15 passenger van could be leased, and a driver could be
independently contracted. Many faculty members and staff
could use this transportation. The van could also transport
the intercampus mail and packages, as well a tranport lab
and IT equipment. Right now the mail is sent by daily UPS
and large vehicles are rented for transporting equipment.
Signage on the van would be a "rolling billboard" to
increase university visibility in the area. The van could be
utilized for special events such as commencement.
I believe this would result in a cost savings to the
university. This idea was brought to me by a faculty member.
The faculty and staff could be poled to obtain their
acceptance or rejection of the idea.
Response: This issue has been studied several times and
has not been found to be cost effective. Thank you for
reminding us to look into it again.

Subject: Web CT
Forwarded to: IT Director
Why was the WebCT maintenance schedule changed? I was
planning on taking advantage of the next couple of days to
get some work done in my course before the holidays. The
maintenance was moved up 5 days and we were given very
little notice. The maintenance announcement was not changed
and nothing was on the university WebCT pages. How about
more forewarning next time.
Response: The WebCT maintenance period was extended 24
hours to accommodate necessary updates to maintain system
stability. The maintenance period is starting at 5:00 pm on
Tuesday December 19th and should be completed by end of day
December 24th. The original down time of Dec 19-23 was
posted in WebCT on November 21 and an update was then posted
in WebCT as an announcement on December 14th . The webpage
announcement section on the login page to WebCT was
mistakenly overlooked when the update was made and has been
since updated. Thank you for your suggestion and I will
continue to make every effort to get this information posted
in a timely fashion.

Subject (1) Summer Commencement
Forwarded to: Director of Community Relations
Subject (2) EdD Program
- Dean, School of Education
I have two questions/suggestions. Is there any way
possible for UHV to have summer graduation ceremonies? I
would like to participate in graduation, but hate to walk
after the fact. Next, I have read the long range plans for
UHV and see that if there is an interest in an EdD that the
school may be able to start a cohort. I would like to
express my interest in this degree plan.
Response (1):
Thank you for
your comment and interest in UHV's graduation ceremonies.
Historically, the university has held one commencement
ceremony per year until 1995 when a second ceremony was
created to accommodate the increased number of yearly
graduates. With our current available resources, a third
summer ceremony is not feasible at this time. As university
enrollment grows, a summer ceremony may be possible in the
future. We do however appreciate your interest and please be
assured we will continue to assess the possibility.
Response (2):
Thank you for
your interest in an Ed.D. program. The School of Education
and Human Development is considering the possible addition
of this program, but its development and implementation is
at least 2-3 years away. We are presently examining several
possible program options and the needs of the region we
serve, as well as the resources needed to establish and
sustain the program.

Subject: Basketball and Football Program
Forwarded to: Athletic Director
UVH should have a basketball and football program next
year, the team would be really good seeing that we have an
exceptional sports program at the high schools. i also have
three relatives that are praying that you will have a sports
program because they want to move to victoria from sheffield
alabama and play basketball.
Response: Thank you for your question and interest in our
athletic program. In determining the sports offered at UHV
we look at those that are played in the NAIA in the region
and at available facilities. Therefore it is highly unlikely
that football or basketball will be offered in the near
future. Again, thank you for your interest and suggestions
and I hope to see you at a UHV baseball game next spring or
other event in the future.
