Accepting American
Express for Payment
Forwarded to:
Accountant
Could you please start taking American
Express credit cards? It is really aggravating that I can
not pay with my American Express credit card.
Response:
Tracking,
reconciling, and problem-solving for American Express
transactions is more complicated than for VISA and
MasterCard. The issues encountered by UHV led to the
discontinuance of the acceptance of American Express credit
cards. If the processing procedures of American Express
improve, we will begin accepting AMEX.

Reserving UHV Rooms
Forwarded to:
Provost
As an employee of UHV I find it
extremely frustrating trying to reserve rooms. The duties
shift from person to person so often that knowing who to
contact becomes quite challenging. I would like to suggest
having ONE person responsible for ALL room reservations
(with the exceptions of the ITV rooms and the President's
conference room). I would also go further and suggest a link
entitled "Room Reservations) be placed on the faculty and
staff home page. This would certainly simplify the process!
Perhaps the receptionist could be the contact person?
Anyway, the current system of
email-and-phone-six-different-people-before-you-find-the-right-one
really stinks!
Response:
Scheduling
of conference rooms in University West is now done through
the Provost's Office (570-4321). The only conference rooms
in University Center are the President's and the Student
Senate's, and these are not generally available for
scheduling.

Recruitment
Forwarded to:
Provost
Why are recruiting events focused in
the Houston area? It seems that we should be doing more to
recruit from here in Victoria - at VC, the Texas Workforce
Commission (for workers that have been laid off from other
jobs), at businesses in our community. We are going to
recruit ourselves right out of a job if they don't start
pulling in more students from this area. Plus that should be
our main focus - to help this community and the surrounding
counties. Thank you
Response:
I don't think
events for UHV are focused in the Houston area. The Sugar
Land and Cinco Ranch centers do have events that include all
four of the participating UH System institutions, and so UHV
is simply part of those. Recruitment has largely been
shifted to the Academic Schools, particularly given the fact
that more than half our students are graduate ones; and the
methods of recruitment have changed somewhat, relying less
on set events. But we still try our best to reach out to
potential students in the Victoria area to inform them of
our programs, financial aid support, etc.

Subject: Entering Campus Events
on Master Calendar
Sent to:
Director of Community Relations
The importance of faculty, staff, and
administrators entering in campus events on the master
calendar cannot be stressed strongly enough. When visitors
come to our campus for a meeting or other activity, they
generally walk into the nearest office by any entrance and
ask where the event is being held. Those of us who are in
these offices must be able to direct visitors in an
efficient and professional manner. That is not possible when
the event is not listed on the master calendar, nor if an
e-mail has be sent to all staff informing them of upcoming
events. Being uniformed or unable to locate an event, which
happens much too often, makes the person who is trying to
assist the vistor, look incompetent. (Which is a reflection
on the univeristy as a whole.) The calendar system we use is
excellent; it's just a matter of getting people to utilize
it. This is the second time I've made this suggestion but
since it was never addressed the first time I decided to
sent it again. I'm sure everyone who finds themselves in the
position of not being able to assist visitors will greatly
appreciate serious attention be given this matter. Thank
you.
Response:
Thank you for your
response. I apologize that you are just now receiving a
reply. It's my understanding that the suggestion box was
termporarily un-serviced, and therefore, your comment is
just now being received. Processes have now been implemented
to increase response time, so your patience during this
transition is very much appreciated.
I do agree that utilization of the
Master Calendar can be improved. This is a great tool that
serves to educate the university community of events and
activities taking place. Unfortunately, monthly requests for
updates have generated very few additions and results in the
very concern you have presented. A process we are
implementing is contacting individual offices for which we
have not received an update. It is our hopes that this
action will assist in keeping the Master Calendar a more
complete tool that will benefit the university.
Again, thank you for your interest and
concern. Your feedback is welcome to let us know if this new
process is effective.
