Job Postings
Forwarded to:
Director, Human Resources/Affirmative Action
PLEASE have someone update
the job posting page on the UHV website. There are jobs
listed as far back as Jan06. Thank you--
Response:
Actually, we
have job postings as far back as 9/20/05 on our UHV website
because the positions are still open and have not been
filled. Unfortunately, some positions are difficult to fill
and the position remains open for several months. Thank you
for noticing our web site and we appreciate your question.

Why don't we have an
"Employment Opportunities" link on the home page? I think
it would be great for prospective talent to be able to go
straight to the postings directly from the home page.
Response:
I think
this is a good suggestion and have forwarded your request to
our university web master. Thank you for taking the time to
visit our web site.

Career Services
Forward to:
Director of Student Development
Your job search / resume
posting system is the worst I have ever seen. There is no
way to efficiently search for a particular field. You need
to fix this problem so that perspective employers such as
myself would even consider posting a job or looking at
resumes on your site.
Response:
Thank you for your input. The Career Services has already
begun looking at ways to "revamp" the Employment section of
our website to make it more user-friendly. The UH-Victoria
Career Services employment website is freely available to
any individual wanting to post or searching for employment
opportunities. Most universities restrict access of job
posting and job searching websites to currently enrolled
students and may be available to alumni for a limited time
after graduation. Additionally, most employers are imposed
fees when conducting resume searches and job postings. As
we revamp the site, we will try to keep the open access
while eliminating the problems.
We
appreciate your bringing this issue to our attention.
Career Services will continue to look for ways to improve
its website so that it can be a more effective and efficient
site for employers, students and alumni. I would encourage
you to contact our Career Services Coordinator, Eunice Mesa,
at 361-570-4369 or by email: mesae@uhv.edu.
Thanks!

School of
Business Web site
Forwarded to:
Dean, School of
Business Administration
I was trying to use the
School of Business website, but beause I am using the
accessibility settings on my computer, have the content
disappears since I think that site is using so much Java.
Their website is not ADA compliant and accessible to all.
Response:
Thank
you for bringing this issue to our attention. Because the
School of Business is committed to accessibility, as we make
design and content changes to our website we scan it for ADA
compliance and other quality and accessibility issues. In
addition, because we know that many visitors choose not to
accept Javascript for a variety of reasons, we have limited
its use and, in fact, are in the process of retiring most of
our Javascript in favor of more text-based design options.
When we
received your suggestion, we ran an ADA compliance scan.
Unfortunately, the scan did not reveal any errors which
would account for the problem you describe, which suggests
there may be another problem interfering with your access to
our site. We would very much like to identify and correct
the problem you (and perhaps other visitors) are running
into. Therefore, if you continue to have problems accessing
any portion of our site, we encourage you to contact Jane
Mims at mimsj@uhv.edu so that together you can address this
problem.

Sending Emails to "All UHV"
Forwarded to:
Director of
Communications and Marketing
Quite some time ago, I recall
that faculty and staff were asked not to send party
invitations and other large files to “all UHV,” I believe in
part to prevent bogging down the mail server and in part as
a courtesy to recipients who might not wish to receive such
large files by email. In the last few weeks, several very
large emailed press releases have been distributed by email
from the Office of Marketing and Communications. Could these
files possibly be placed on either the P: drive or the web,
with an email listing only the title of the release and a
link?
Response:
Thanks for your
feedback. The Communications and Marketing press releases
are forwarded to "All UHV" to keep UHV faculty and staff
informed of what is taking place at the university. This
process was established by the president to increase
internal communications and share campus news with UHV
employees before they are submitted to external media
sources. The format in which they are distributed to "All
UHV" is in compliance with university policy.
Should you
not want to receive the press releases in your inbox, you
may have them redirected to a folder within MS Outlook. The
IT Help Desk can assist in setting up this process up for
you.
