Subject: Hazardous Waste

Forwarded to: Director of Business Services

Where can I find information regarding procedures for hazardous waste disposal, batteries in particular?

Response: If you are an individual, there are a number of places in Victoria that will accept batteries for recycling.

See City of Victoria Recycling information at: http://www.victoriatx.org/environmental/recycling.htm

Find City of Victoria sites and hours or operation: Recycling Centers in the City of Victoria

Click on this site to see what recycling items are accepted: What can I recycle in the City of Victoria? (we were told City Recycling sites only accept car batteries)

Interstate Battery System Company, 5210 N. John Stockbauer (near the Mall-- phone 572-9699) accepts any type of battery, (auto, flashlight, etc) during their working hours and they will dispose of it at no charge.

Also, many Radio Shack locations will accept household consumer batteries (NiCad, rechargeable batteries, and smaller single use batteries.) There are two Radio Shack locations in Victoria, one on Navarro and one on Airline.

Subject: Criminal Justice Classes

Forwarded to: Coordinator of Criminal Justice Programs

There needs to be more cjs classes in the fall and spring and not in the summer when people are trying to earn money to pay for their classes. and less online classes. there needs to be a variety of classes that are on peoples degree plan

Response: We must have at least ten people sign up for an undergraduate class or it will not make. Based on past enrollments, we feel blessed to have eight CJS classes make in the Fall and Spring. As for people making money in the Summer, the majority of CJS majors work year round and have typically already started a career in Criminal Justice. Online classes help with enrollment numbers. Also, the rotating shifts of students who work in the Criminal Justice field have created blocked opportunities for face to face course offerings. Personnaly, I miss the atmosphere of face to face classes, but the world has changed and that method of teaching is not presently lucrative at UHV's CJS undergraduate level.

Subject: Class Offerings

Forwarded: Provost

More classes should be offered. Many times there is only one section of a class, and if you are trying to work out a decent schedule you can bet on that class being offered at the exact same time as another class. Also, more classes should be offered at UHV instead of @ Cinco Ranch. UHV has a lot of commuters from surrounding areas who are not able to travel to Cinco Ranch. This is very frustrating for students. From my experience @ UHV, I will not be recommending UHV to anybody.

Response: Like all universities, UHV tries to provide a balanced schedule within resources available. This means providing courses at Victoria, at Cinco Ranch, at Sugar Land, and at various other sites, as well as online, in a way that enables most students to make reasonable progress toward their degrees.

Offering more courses or sections of them would require more faculty and more classrooms, which would in turn increase the cost to students and the state. So, trade-offs and compromises have to be made, as in all other arenas of life. But balance those as best we can, there will still be conflicts, closed classes, inconvenient times, and other frustrations that go with trying to make limited resources serve the needs of as many students as posssible.

Subject: Maintenance

Forwarded: Director of Facilities

Can we please clean up the sidewalk and entrance area on the west side of University Center. The bird droppings are weeks old, there are weeds growing out of the bricks and pavers, cigarette butts scattered around, the grass and weeds need to be mowed around the pyramid, stains on the bricks, etc. This area used to be kept extremely clean, so we know it can be

done. Please give this area a little more attention.

Response: Thank you for your interest. We will address these and other deficiencies as soon as possible.
