Interesting Spots to Visit

Sun-Moon Lake

Surrounded by green mountains, Sun Moon Lake is the pearl of Central Taiwan. Sun Moon Lake is the largest natural lake in Taiwan. The Eastern part of the lake is round like the sun, while the Western part is shaped like a crescent moon - hence the name "Sun Moon Lake".

Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall

The Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Park is opened in 1987, containing not only the memorial but also the National Concert Hall and the National Theater. The park covers a space of 24 hectares, with a wide open plaza. It is surrounded by a long white wall topped with small blue tiled roof forming a long hallway which wraps around the park. The architecture of the memorial itself is modeled after the pyramid-like top of Tiantan in Peking. Its massive blue-tiled roof is capped with a golden peak on top, producing a majestic appearance.

Taipei 101 (Shown on the cover page):

The building, designed by C.Y. Lee & Partners and constructed by KTRT Joint Venture, is the world's tallest completed skyscraper. Taipei 101 received the Emporis Skyscraper Award in 2004. It has been hailed as one of the Seven New Wonders of the World (Newsweek magazine, 2006) and Seven Wonders of Engineering (Discovery Channel, 2005). The building serves as an icon of Taipei and Taiwan as a whole.

    Remarks

    (1) Meals in Taiwan are conveniently available and have a variety of choice. Formal meals are generally priced around $4. Inexpensive meals ($2~$3) are also available just nearby the hotel and National Chin-Yi University.

    (2) Pubs, clubs, restaurants, and many night markets, located around Taichung attract many tourists to visit.

    (3) The National Chin-Yi University will arrange their MBA and English-majored students to host UHV students at a two-to-one or one-to-one base. Our students will have a better opportunity to communicate with the local students.

    (4) Chi-Yi University is a wireless campus. They also provide computer lab for UHV students. Internet service is also available in hotel freely. It is recommended to carry your own laptop because most computers available in Taiwan only have Chinese version software.

    (5) Currency exchange is convenient in the Airport or commercial banks in Taichung and Taipei. All supermarkets and department stores take major credit cards; however, there are some retailers only take cash.
