 Study Abroad in Cuernavaca, Mexico

 

Cuernavaca Mexico Programs


 

Two, Three , Five or Twelve week Programs

Students will spend six to eight hours daily in small group sessions (five or less) which serve to improve their skills in the Spanish language while learning the fundamentals of cultural communication in a total immersion environment. Small group classes and discussions will help develop knowledge of their host culture by focusing on geography, history, politics, religion, family and traditions. Students will further enhance their skills in, and understanding of, Spanish language and the subtleties of Hispanic culture by examining ever more specific issues in a wide variety of academic areas.

The 12 week semester program is 3 semester credit hours of spanish plus 12 semester credit hours from UHV via internet to Mexico, for a total of 15 semester credit hours.

 

Experience and research have identified the most important elements of successful study abroad programs. The Cuernavaca program incorporates those elements as follows:

  • Students take at their level, language and culture courses in Spanish in small groups.  (Appendix A)
  • A variety of cultural enrichment and volunteer activities to insure that students receive a complete immersion in all social layers and economic strata of the host cultures.
  • Regular and complete progress toward degree requirements
  • By virtue of a consortium agreement students will utilize scholarships and financial aid available to them at their home campus.

Financial Aid Avaible

 

All programs include the following:

·        A $250 deposit made to UHV International Programs due at time of application.

·        Program fees to Universidad Internacional.

·        Insurance

·        Books and Material

·        Laundry

·        Registration fees

·        UHV Undergraduate Tuition for appropriate semester hours

·        A required International Student Identification Card (ISIC) for UHV students may be obtained in Room 108 in the University West Building.

      Students may purchase their ISIC is via this link: http://www.myisic.com/MyISIC/GetYourCard/GetYourCard1.aspx.

      proof of purchase is required.

·        Ground transfers from Mexico City to Cuernavaca.

·        Full room and board in a single occupancy with a host family.  

·        Transportation to and from the university if you are more than a fifteen minute walk from campus.

 

·        This fee does NOT INCLUDE:

·        International flight to Mexico City must be booked by students. (Important: BOOK EARLY).

·        Excursions may be viewed  here and the purchase price added to the Program Cost.

 

 

Mexico - How to Apply/Checklist

·        Book your airline flight for your study abroad trip as early as possible to ensure availability.

 

·        All students are required to have a valid U.S. passport and an international student I.D.

 

·        Apply for any appropriate financial aid, scholarships, loans, etc. Be sure to consider future study abroad plans in filling out the FAFSA

 

·        Apply for the appropriate UHV scholarship

      2008 - 2009 UHV scholarship

 

·        Complete the Universidad Internacional Application and submit. (Non UHV students must fill out the Texas Common Application and be accepted as a transfer student to UHV.)

 

·       The  Course Articulation Form  must be completed. All required signatures must be obtained by the student.  Return to the address below.

 

·        You must include a $250 deposit made to UHV International Programs due at time of application. This deposit will be refunded only if you are not accepted.  Send the deposit check to address below.

Once your application is approved:

 

·        Prepare for travel by finalizing any travel documents and/or arrangements. (i.e. Passports, airfare, insurance.) Health precautions, (i.e. immunizations, prescriptions) and any personal matters.
