Prague: Two Week Itinerary


Tentative Program May 15-30, 2008

v     Day 1: Th, May 15 Arrival to Prague         

·         Accommodation in Komenskeho kolej  

·         Orientation tour – partially by tram - get familiar with public transportation and on foot, Old Town, Wenceslas Square, laundry place, dinner (pizza, Czech / European dinner, per preferences)  

·        We can provide city transportation tickets, city pocket maps, initial CZK cash, so everybody has some cash to start and not waste time with changing money and wait for the whole group

v     Day 2: Fr, May 16  

·        Business environment in the Czech Republic and Central Europe (1 hr lecture and discussion – P. Balcar)  

·        lunch   

·        CPA firm visit

v     Day 3: Sat, May 17  

·        Bus trip to Ceský Krumlov  

·        castle tour  

·        lunch at a special medieval barbeque restaurant (a unique very popular place)    

·        Ceský Krumlov sightseeing  

·        arrival to Prague around 7 pm 

v     Day 4: Sun, May 18  

·        Prague Castle – St. Vitus Cathedral, Zlatá Ulicka - Golden Lane, Nerudova Street, Charles Bridge, Old Town (guided tour)  

·        lunch

·        Jewish quarter – synagogues, Jewish cemetery (guided tour)

v     Day 5: Mon, May 19

·        bus trip to Karlovy Vary, famous spa town

·        Becherovka liquor company visit

·        lunch

·        glass or porcelain factory visit

v     Day 6: Tue, May 20

·        bank visit

·        individual program 

v     Day 7: Wed, May 21

·        Czech Technical University (ČVUT) – discussion session

·        Bertramka – Mozart museum

·        Puppet show – Don Giovanni

v     Day 8: Th, May 22

·        Skoda / VW Mladá Boleslav car factory visit 

·        Lunch

·        Arrival to Prague around 3-4 pm

v     Day 9: Fr, May 23

·        Insurance company visit

·        Museum of communism.

v     Day 10: Sat, May 24

·        open air museum – traditional 18th-19th century village houses concentrated on one spot

v     Day 11: Sun, May 25

·        bus trip to Terezin concentration camp, Jewish ghetto and cemetery  

·        lunch in Litomerice

·        arrival to Prague around 5 pm

v     Day 12: Mon, May 26

·        Gas union – lecture on gas industry development, unbundling issues in the EU

v     Day 13: Tue, May 27

·        guided tour of the Senate

·        Petřín watch tower

v     Day 14: Wed, May 28

·        Technical museum

·        Individual program

v     Day 15: Th, May 29

·        Academic wrap up session, discussion

·        packing

·        closing dinner

v     Day 16: Fr, May 30

·        departure

v     Remarks: Dinner and evening possibilities in Prague:

·        “U Fleků” restaurant - brewery, Křemencova street, founded 1499 

·        Opera – National Theater, Theater of Estates – Mozart premiered Don Giovanni there

·        Concerts: classical – symphony (concert hall), chamber (concert hall or church)

·        ballet

·        Black Theatre – special show with the dark backstage area and interesting lighting

·        Jazz boat dinner – fun boat on the Vltava river with live jazz music (very popular among international students)

 

There is an alternative for individual travel to European cities – Vienna, Paris, Amsterdam, Budapest, … instead of group trips, per preferences
