Student Senate Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order at 12:10p.m by Kristen
Lindley, President.

III.
The minutes of June 25, 2008 were not approved due to not
being sent out correctly. We will need to review on August 13, 2008
as well as July 9, 2008’s minutes.
IV.
Officer’s Reports:
A.
Treasurer: Melissa Romanowski unable to provide accurate treasury
reports, because there was a discrepancy in totals in one account.
Melissa will provide senate with the revised totals at August 13,
2008 meeting.
B.
Secretary: No new report given by Nicole M. Garcia
C.
Vice President: Juan Diego reported that Wal-Mart had double booked
for the July 9th bake sale.
V.
Old Business
A.
Bake Sale Details
-We
will need to reschedule the bake sale date. Possibly July 19th,
2008. The time will be scheduled for 6am-9am.

Kristen Lindley: 3 dozen of Blueberry Muffins
·
Melissa Romanowski: 12 dozen of 2 inch chocolate chip
cookies (2-3/bag) and possibly pumpkin bread
·
Valerie Kemp: Donuts (depending on Wal-Mart’s
approval)
·
Whitney Damborsky: brownies
·
Shelia C. Jaure: cupcakes
·
Nicole and Shauna: surprise (cake, sweet breads, etc.)
***Kristen Lindley,
President, said for everyone to make sure to keep receipts so that
we can receive reimbursements for the items purchased for the bake
sale. The money will be refunded from one of our accounts.
VI.
Advisor’s Report, Janet Foerster:
Janet
Foerster wants to stress how important it is to get involved in
community events. July 26th will be an upcoming event at
the Mall “Just Dogs! Gourmet” will be hosting a Christmas in July
for dogs. We need to volunteer if available. Shirts will hopefully
be in so we can represent Student Senate. Kristen Lindley,
President also supports that we need to take a huge part in
volunteering.
Janet
also reports that Minnie Urbano, Co-Advisor will like senate to make
a display case in October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Juan
Diego, Vice President also suggests that we can make a special
Breast Cancer Awareness shirt to sell in October.
VII.
New Business
A.
New Student Orientation: “See New Student Orientation Agenda
attached that Kristen, President provided.” Kristen, President, is
going to suggest that the orientation be moved to a weekend before
school starts on August 25 instead of the weekend after, per senate
recommendations.
B.
Committee for Washington D.C:
·
Kristen Lindley and Sheila C. Jaure volunteered to be
on committee. Kristen and Shelia will research activities to do
while in Washington and provide ideas at the next meeting on August
13, 2008. We all need to log onto
www.asga.com and decide which conference we would like to
participate in. (At this meeting we received an invoice copy for
our trip to Washington).
C.
PowerPoint for the Year and our trip to Washington D.C.:
Take
many pictures of events that we host and volunteer at, as well as
our trip to Washington D.C. At the end of the year we can provide
clips of our participation throughout the community for the
President’s Cabinet. Possibly contact Melody and Steven to help
with this marketing aspect.
D.
Community Service Ideas:
·
Fiesta Parade (September 13) at UHV. We can also sell
t-shirts.
·
Head Start: read books to the students
·
Shelia suggested that we also need to expand to the
surrounding counties.
·
Ersilia Garcia needs volunteers for E-mentoring if
interested contact her in Student Services.
·
Janet will keep us updated with additional activities.
**Next Meeting Juan
Diego is going to check with Wal-Mart for Bake Sale schedule.
Jerico Erik, will
provide additional designs for t-shirts.
