Student Senate Meeting Minutes

August 13, 2008

       I.            The meeting was called to order at 12:05p.m by Kristen Lindley, President

     II.            Roll Call

  III.            The minutes of June 25 were motioned by Sheila C. Jaure and seconded Shauna Sullivan.

The minutes of July 9, 2008 were motioned by Shauna Sullivan and seconded by Jerico Erik.

  IV.            Officer’s Report

A.    President-Kristen Lindley provided senate members information on upcoming American Book Review guest speakers.

B.      Vice President-Juan Diego Martinez provided a copy of his notes since he was unable to attend the meeting.  Juan is trying to organize and reserve a date for the upcoming bake sale at Wal-Mart.  Juan is also working on getting our shirts for our trip to Washington. Juan needs

C.     Treasurer-Melissa Romanowski, provided the Senate account balance.

a.     Student Fundraising: $1207.86 (includes commencement DVD’s)

b.     Student Organizations: $5882.42

c.      Student Senate: $69.36

The new budget will be in September, 2008.

D.     Secretary-Nicole, recapped the progress of the back to school bags.  Bags will include informational packets, pens, pencils, spirals, embrodired cozies, rice crispies, crackers, lollipops, and fruit roll ups.

    V.            Old Business

A.    T-Shirts

1.     $10.00 for Senate Shirt

-The university policy is that we have to charge 8% sales tax, meaning we would have to pay .80 cents.  We decided to charge $10.00 for sizes S-XL and $12.00 XXL-XXXL.  As of right now these are the prices unless we decide to adjust the prices.  Kristen Lindley-President will make order forms and an excel spreadsheet Senate members will be responsible for turning in the order forms along with the money.  Senate members decided that Janet Forester will hold the shirts and the money collected with our order forms.

          B.  New Student Orientation

1.      Kristen e-mailed us the PowerPoint presentation on August 12, 2008.

A.     New Student Orientation- Kristen provided senators with a UHV Connect handout, New Student Orientation Ideas.  Student Services participating in these events and have asked Senate for our assistance in marketing ideas, ideas for give away items, generating new ideas overall for the benefit for the students’ at UHV.

B.     UHV Connect-See; UHV Connect and other web updates: Blog specific groups in UHV connect for UHV Senate.  UHV Senate is set up for Face book and MySpace.  Maybe set up You-Tube to show student how to navigate through PeopleSoft.

C.     Graduation Dates-Tabled

D.    Committee for Washington DC-Tabled

E.     PowerPoint for year and Trip-Tabled

F.     Community Service Ideas-Tabled-Fiesta Parade (Sept. 13), sell t-shirts-tabled
