Student Senate Meeting Minutes
May 16, 2007
I.
Call to Order- The meeting was called to order in
Sugar Land at 7:50pm
II.
Roll Call-

Approval of Minutes- None at the time
IV.
Committees
A.
Fundraising- Senate needs to start considering
fundraising projects for Leadership Conference. Bake sales at
Wal-Mart, garage sale, folding chairs, bears, and children’s
t-shirts mentioned. Continued consideration of fundraising
opportunities to be discussed at Senate retreat.
B.
Special Events- Sale of Roses and DVDs at Commencement
approximates $275 profit, Fiesta Day profit approximated at $60.
C.
UHV Committees
i.
Employee of the month- Marcus will head this committee, and
needs information
ii.
Safety and Risk Management- no report
iii.
Student Fees Advisory Committee- no report
iv.
Financial Aid Scholarship- no report
v.
Faculty Senate- no report
vi.
WEB- no report
V.
Advisor’s Report- Student Senate office converting
into interim Athletics offices, all Senate (and other student
organization) items will be moved into locked cabinets in the
Student Organization room. Paperwork needed in the student
relations office for all incoming officers, as well as a sponsor
e-mail of intent to remain as sponsor of organization to Zoeann
Byerly. Reminder that fundraising money needs to be turned in to
Lynn Silkey the day after a fundraising event.
VI.
Officer’s Report
A.
President- Danny stated that UH Downtown is planning to
take classes from Sugar Land to the main campus, which will result
in a higher percentage of Sugar Land students enrolling at UHV.
Suggestions have been made considering the Sugar Land campus as the
future home location of UHV. Faculty Senate gearing UHV toward a
research oriented campus resulting in greater increase of research
opportunities for students and need for expansion that Sugar Land
campus could offer.
B.
Vice President- no report
C.
Treasurer- Rose sale brought in approximately $275,
Fiesta Day $60
D.
Secretary- no report
VII.
Old Business
A.
Commencement- THANK YOU to all that helped! Commencement
went by without a hitch, Lacey rocked her commencement address and
Andrei Codrescu was an excellent speaker.
B.
Fiesta Day- THANK YOU to all that helped! Disappointing
profit…we now know to serve “real” food next year!
C.
Finals Food- THANK YOU to Shelley…You did an AWESOME job
with finals food. Thank You to all that helped!
D.
Senate Retreat- There will be a Senate retreat On June 16th
at Delores’ house (606 Dundee St.). There will be an end of
semester social after the meeting.
VIII.
New Business
A.
Meeting Schedule-A consideration of doing two meetings a
month will be put on the agenda for the Senate retreat in June.
Consideration of future summer meeting dates considered at Senate
retreat.
B.
Board of Regents Meeting- Held once a year at different
UH system campus, this year UHV will host the meeting. May 18,
2007, Danny, Delores, Kelli and Juan Diego will attend as student
representatives.
C.

Name Tags and Shirts- Kelli will send e-mails requesting shirt
sizes and how name should be printed on name tags. Shirts- Blue and
short sleeved, Caps to be considered at Senate retreat.
IX.
Adjournment- Delores motioned to adjourn at 8:25 pm,
Star seconded the motion, all were in favor.
