I.
Call to Order- The meeting was called to order at
12:06
II.
Roll Call-
Members present
Delores White, Lacey
Bonner, Danny Ochoa, Marcus Taylor, Juan Diego Martinez, Rick
Navarro, Kelli Gill, Keith Merrick, Shelley Ressman
Members absent
Bonnie Vasquez
Welcome to
Guests- Kathy Foil and Farouk El-Alabassi (Sugar Land) have
petitioned to become members of Student Senate through special
elections. Voting was done anonymously by ballot, and both were
voted in as Senators at Large.
III.
Approval of Minutes- Delores motioned to approve the
February minutes. Rick seconded the motion, all were in favor. The
motion passed and the minutes were accepted.
IV.
Committees
A.
Fundraising- When Senate holds their retreat, discussion
will be held about what items should be ordered to sell as
fundraisers.
B.
PR- Danny mentions that flyers need to be made to
announce Senate’s regular elections held in April.
C.
Special Events- The total raised at Black History Month
was $196.13. Kathy Foil volunteered to join the special events
committee.
D.
UHV Committees
i.
Employee of the month- No Report
ii.
Safety and Risk Management- no report
iii.
Student Fees Advisory Committee- Wayne Beran contacted
Danny about a meeting being organized about Student Fees. Keith,
Delores, Kelly, Danny, and Kathy volunteered to go to the meeting.
iv.
Financial Aid Scholarship- no report, will meet once
peoplesoft is implemented.
v.
Faculty Senate- no report
vi.
WEB- Danny added some pictures of Black History Month to
our website.
V.
Advisor’s Report- The Math and Computer Science
Contest will be held March 8th. Keith, Rick, Juan,
Marcus, Kathy, and Lacey Volunteered to help out. Grad Fest is
March 8th in Sugar Land, Grad Expo is March 19th
in Victoria. The Student appreciation dinner will be held April 19th.
Commencement is May 12th, volunteers needed.
VI.
Officer’s Report
A.
President- Danny was emailed by state
representative Hochberg’s office. They would like us to give info
on bill 956 being submitted to try to lower cost of textbooks.
Danny wrote a letter back, and anyone who would like to attend the
hearing in Austin is welcome to. Travel arrangements can be made
through the University.
B.
Vice President- no report
C.
Treasurer- The Senate account holds $204.87.
Fundraising has $621.47.
D.
Secretary- Lacey brought up selling roses at commencement
as a good fundraiser, this will be discussed further at the next
meeting.
VII.
Old Business
A.
Black History Month Parade and Festival- Senate discussed
the success of this event and Danny thanked all volunteers.
B.
Senate Retreat- There will be a Senate retreat On June 16th
at Delores’ house (606 Dundee St.) please email Delores with your
favorite beverages. There will be an end of semester social after
the meeting.
C.
Name Tags and Shirts- Please email Lacey with Shirt sizes
and how name should be printed on name tags.
VIII.
New Business
A.
Meeting Schedule-A consideration of doing two meetings a
month will be put on the agenda for the Senate retreat in June.
B.
UH Baseball Game- The game will be held April 24th,
volunteers will be needed to sell programs, etc. Contact Danny if
you are available.
C.
Fiesta Day- Wednesday April 25th. There will
be about 10 booths selling food. Senate will be serving Nachos and
Frito pies from 9-3p.m. An andian music group from San Antonio will
be playing for entertainment. Volunteers needed.
Announcements-
There will be a press conference on Monday at 2:30pm to announce
the mascot at the Texas zoo.

1:04pm, Delores White seconded the motion, all were in favor.
