Staff Council Meeting

Members in Attendance: From UHV:  Robin Cadle, Tracey Moore-Sweeney, Cathy Nelson, Linda Urbish, Kathy Caylor, Esther Sandoval, Katherine Sullivan, Sariah Welch, Christy Etter-Esse, Karen Pantel, Sharon Long, Fern Roessler, Kerry Mix, Randy Faulk and Faye Landry.  From Cinco Ranch: Christy Graham.  From Sugar Land: No Attendance

1.    The meeting was called to order at 2:38 p.m.

2.    A motion was made by Christy Etter-Esse and seconded by Sharon Long that

       the minutes from the November 17, 2004, be approved as written. The

        minutes will be placed on the P: drive prior to the meetings so members can

        print and review before attending.

3.  Old Business:

·     Christmas Projects – Chair Cadle gave an update on the Giving Tree.  All Angels were adopted.  Linda Urbish gave an update on the Lacks’ Christmas Donation:  1^st place – Miss Victoria Pageant – 751 items; 2^nd place – Southern Country 4hers – 476 items, 3^rd Wood High Elementary – 299 items and UH-V gave 191 items.

Chair Cadle said UHV contributed 300+  items of food to the Giving Tree.  All holiday projects were successful.

·     Constitution Revisions – Revisions of the Constitution were handed out.  Christy Etter-Esse move and seconded by Sariah Welch for everyone to review the revisions in the next two months and vote on the revisions at the March 16^th meeting of the Staff Council.  If anyone needs copies of the constitution, please contact Robin Cadle, ext. 120.

4.      New Business:

·     Wish List -  IT training needs – suggests were made for Advanced Access, Publisher, Photoshop and Illustrator.

·     Employee Recognition -  Suggestions made were bonuses, raises, in addition to Employee of the Month, paid personal day, movie books/gift certificates, staff nominate faculty member, and faculty nominate staff member and we will also check other university websites for suggestions. 

·     Spring Event – Staff Council to invite faculty to a picnic to be held in the Multi-Purpose Room with patio area.  Try to do last week in March.  Committee formed to plan Spring Fling  of Sariah Welch, Sharon Long, Christy Ette-Esse, Karen Pantel and Robin Cadle.

·     Announcements

                                    Employee Recognition Luncheon: January 25^th at 11:45 am in  

                                    Multi Purpose Room-UC.

                                    Cabinet  Retreat:  January 28^th

                                    UH System Day & Legislative Reception – February 8^th  -

                                    Please let Robin Cadle know if you are interested in attending –

                                    need to take vacation day.

                                    UH System Staff Council – February 17^th @ Clear Lake

                                    Thirsty Thursday – March 10^th

                                    Staff Council Meeting – March 16^th 

                        Fiesta Day – the week of April 25^th – April 28^th to celebrate

                        Hispanic culture and educate students of their Hispanic heritage

                        and to recruit students to UH-V

                        Spring Break – March 14 -18, 2005

                        Finals Week – 2nd week in May

            UH Homecoming Basketball Game – March 5^th  at 7:30 p.m.

            University of Houston versus University of Alabama, Birmingham 2

            buses leaving at 1:30 p.m. from Victoria – Tickets $10.00

Christy Ette-Esse spoke on Adopt-a-Highway – Highway Transportation Department provides the supplies and for two years you clean up four times a year.  Robin Cadle will bring up with Student Senate to see if they would like to combine with UH-V staff on this project.

Sharon Long spoke on the Annual Homeless Count being done on January 26^th.  They are looking for volunteers to assist with this count.  Contact Gamma Beta Phi and Student Senate for this project.

5.  Meeting Adjourned: A motion was made by Christy Ette-Esse and seconded by Sariah Welch to adjourn the meeting at 3:15 p.m. The next meeting will be Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at 2:30 p.m. in UHV Center Bldg. Room 312, Cinco Ranch Room 143 and Sugar Land Room 318.
