Shirley Sommer has joined the UHV SBDC as a Business Advisor. She will be assisting clients in Gonzales, Lavaca and Victoria Counties.
Shirley Sommer was born in Denver, Colorado but was raised a Texan from a very young age. She graduated from Yoakum High School and attended the University of Texas at Austin where she earned a Bachelor in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting. She became a Certified Public Accountant in 1982 and had worked for the international accounting firm of Price Waterhouse and the regional accounting firm, Matthew & Associates. Shirley and her husband have been small business owners for over 30 years, which included Handy Stop Grocery, Handy Stop Nursery and Sommer & Sommer, CPAs.
For most of the past ten years, Shirley had dedicated herself to the hospice community by managing Accolade Hospice in Yoakum and then moving to regional hospice management positions with Foundation Management Services and then by forming her own hospice consulting business, Momentum Resources, Inc.
Alan and Shirley have 3 married sons, Landon, Cody and Brandon, and 3 wonderful granddaughters. Shirley is a long-time member of the Yoakum Rotary Club where she was a past-president and is currently the Secretary and Rotary Foundation chair.
