Selection Timeline
| As soon as possible | Applications should be made available from the offices of the student government, chancellor and president |
| By September 1 | Applicants solicited by the student government leadership |
| By a date to be determined | Each campus or system should establish a practical application deadline |
| By November 1 | Five applicants are selected as the student government’s recommendations on each campus and forwarded to the president or chancellor |
| By December 1 | Two or more applicants, from among the five recommended by each student government, are selected by the system chancellor/independent public university president and recommended to the Governor. |
| On/After February 1 | Governor appoints a student regent for a one-year term expiring the following January 31 |
