INTRODUCTION

University of Houston-Victoria is a member of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools-Commission on Colleges (SACS/COC).  The University was accredited by SACS/COC in 1983. The accreditation was reaffirmed in 1993, following an extensive self-study process and an on-site review by a visiting committee representing SACS/COC that determined compliance with the Criteria for Accreditation. The next reaffirmation visit is scheduled for Spring 2003.

Central to the accreditation process is the self-study. The institution is required to conduct a comprehensive study of its purpose, programs, and services. This process results in a document evaluating the institution’s effectiveness in reaching its stated goals and its compliance with the Criteria. Self-study is a multi-year, comprehensive, institution-wide assessment process. All the “must” and “should” statements in the Criteria need to be addressed. The goals of the self-study are to assure that UHV’s regional accreditation is reaffirmed and to strengthen the effectiveness of the institution.
