VC/UHV LIBRARY
Mission Statement
The VC/UHV Library is committed to
anticipating and satisfying the information and research needs of
the Victoria College and University of Houston-Victoria communities,
and supporting these institutions in their respective missions.
The Victoria College/UH-Victoria
Library serves as a primary research resource for Victoria County
and fourteen surrounding counties. The major role of the library is
to serve the curricular and research needs of the students, faculty,
and staff of Victoria College and UH-Victoria. An important but
secondary role is to provide informational services to the community
and region, within the limits allowed by the library's resources. To
serve the patrons of the library in the best possible way, the
library is committed to cooperation and the sharing of resources
with other libraries in the city, region, state, and nation.
The Victoria College/UH-Victoria
Library shares an automation system with the Victoria Public Library
and is a participant in the TexShare statewide library resource
sharing project. Through these cooperative efforts, the library is
able to provide better services and access to library resources for
students and the community. The library also serves as a select
depository for federal documents, a full depository for Texas state
documents, and a Regional Historical Records Depository, which
houses a growing collection of archival materials from Victoria and
surrounding counties.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
The Information Technology department provides
academic and administrative computing and telecommunications
resources for the University of Houston-Victoria. Information
Technology also supports faculty, staff, and students for distance
learning through interactive video
operations. Information Technology offices and facilities are
located on the second floor of the University Center Building,
including our Microcomputer Labs and Teaching Labs.
Academic computing support is available at
over 160 workstations for student
access located around the campus and includes processing
capabilities in several high-level languages. Printed output for
academic users is available on laser printers in the central
printing area on the second floor of the University Center.
The Microcomputer and Teaching labs support PC
microcomputers used for word processing, spreadsheets, presentation
development, database management, and other common microcomputer
software packages. Internet access is available through the lab
computers using Netscape navigator and Internet Explorer.
Outlook is the e-mail client used
to send and receive e-mail. Printing resources for the lab systems
include laser and color ink-jet printers. Scanners are also
available. This equipment is available to all students enrolled at
UH-Victoria.
During operating hours, lab assistants are on
duty to provide support in the use and operation of the hardware and
software. Operational hours for these labs are posted at each site.
