I.                   Review of minutes – October 17, 2007

--Approved as circulated.

II.                General

·        PeopleSoft Issues and Updates

1.      Mr. Alex Leal, Peoplesoft consultant, will be on campus the week of November 26th to provide query training.

2.      Admissions Office is working on getting students ready to register for Spring 2008 beginning November 19th.  With the help of Summer Liebensperger, the students will be able to obtain help from the revised Peoplesoft pages which includes updated detailed instructions.

3.      Ms. Carolyn Fritz is conducting the first faculty grading training today, October 17, 2007.

·        Admissions Updates

1.      Ms. Trudy Wortham distributed an updated application report obtained from Peoplesoft queries on applications that are received for review by Academic Council.

2.      Ms. Wortham, Ms. Linda Parr and Ms. Cheryl Shumbera will be attending a Texas Academic Chief Registrar’s Officer meeting in Addison.  They also plan to visit the University of North Texas, University of Texas Arlington and the Southern Methodist University to gain insight into Peoplesoft processes implemented by those universities.

·        Fort Bend/Cinco Ranch Issues and Updates

1.      Dr. LaBrecque gave an update on the Sugar Land administration stating that Mr. Richard Phillips will be the administrator for UHS Systems Centers.  Mr. Phillips will continue to oversee UHV Development.    Dr. LaBrecque will remain in charge of academic affairs.

·        Other

1.      Dr. LaBrecque held a faculty coffee in Cinco Ranch and Sugar Land on October 26th.  She is planning a coffee in Victoria on November 13th.  The coffees were very productive and plans on sharing issues and ideas that were brought forth in those meetings.

2.      Dr. Hartshorn questioned the academic honors procedures in light of Nursing students graduating this year.  UHV’s policy does not provide for Nursing students to graduate with honors due to a requirement as to the number of hours taken at UHV.  Dr. LaBrecque agreed that this should be reviewed but that the process may not be in place for Fall commencement to be held in December.  Dr. LaBrecque asked Dr. Hartshorn to look at other universities to see how they are dealing with honors for BSN graduates.

3.      Ms. Wortham provided a handout regarding the Bologna Process.  She stated that universities nation-wide are looking at whether or not to accept European three year degrees.  The question UHV will be facing will be whether to accept the three year degree or whether we should require a four year bridge program similar to what the School of Business Administration has offered.  Ms. Wortham stated that the University of Texas is leaning toward accepting the three year degrees, but will need to look at this in greater detail.  Professor Bullock agreed that UHV may also need to consider accepting three year degrees.  Another issue to consider is whether UHV will accept the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test.
