Academic Council Minutes, December 13, 2006 

I.  General Agenda

  • Minutes

  • Data Collection

--Mrs. Trudy Wortham updated the council that enrollment was 40 ahead of last spring.  

  • Instructional Technology/Online Issues

--Mr. Joe Ferguson reported that President’s Cabinet had approved a bandwidth upgrade.  The proposed timeline is late March to early April. 

  • PeopleSoft Issues

--Mrs. Wortham announced that they are still working on PeopleSoft integration testing, with still some issues to work through.  The week of February 5 is proposed to be the next round of integrated testing. 

  • Other

--Dr. Stansell and Mrs. Wortham provided an overview of the joint Victoria College and University of Houston-Victoria December 2 Victoria Mall registration day.   It was noted that this was a worthy event from a recruitment standpoint, but not so for registration.  It was recommended that only a recruitment table is needed for future mall events such as this one. 

II. Student Issue 

--Student presented her case to the council.  The council stood by its previous decision concerning plagiarism. 

III. Specific Agenda 

--Prospective student is denied admission at this time.  The Academic Council advises her to take a GRE preparation course before repeating the GRE test or to take the Millers Analogy Test (MAT) to raise her graduate index. 

  • Faculty Development Grant Requests and Reports

--Dr. Vera Adamchik was awarded $1,000.00 for the Institute for Business and Finance Research Winter 2007 Global Conference, in South Padre Island, TX. 

--When last year’s research report is submitted, Dr. Li Chao will be awarded $1,300.00 for the 2007 Information Resources, Management Association International Conference, in Vancouver, Canada. 

--Dr. Hsin-Hui Lin was awarded $400.00 for the American Educational Research Association 2007 Annual Meeting, in Chicago, IL. 

--Dr. Mary Mayorga was awarded $700.00 for the Texas Counseling Association 50th Annual Professional Growth Conference, in San Antonio, TX. 

--Dr. Ron Sardessai was awarded $1,300.00 for a research grant to study the performance appraisal systems in the U.S. and India in order to decipher any cross cultural impacts on performance and expectations of performance among employees and employers.

--Dr. Ron Sardessai was awarded $540.00 for the NEBAA-LAXPRA International Conference, in Udaipur (Raj.), India. 

--Accepted a publication award report from Dr. Nagarajan Ramamoorthy. 

--Accepted two grant funded conference travel reports from Dr. Ron Sardessai. 

  • Other

--  SEQ CHAPTER \h \r 1Provost LaBrecque brought a Suggestion Box item to the council for discussion of exploring the possibility of running a shuttle service between the UHV sites.  It was decided that Dr. LaBrecque will visit with Vice President Beran concerning the feasibility of the issue.
