Academic Council Minutes, November 1, 2006 

I.        Minutes 

--Approved as circulated, with one revision to clarify message. 

Note:  To be eligible for Faculty Development reimbursements, receipts and reports must be submitted within four weeks of travel. 

II.     General Data 

  • Data Collection

--Trudy Wortham announced online registration for the spring semester begins November 20, 2006.  

  • PeopleSoft Issues

--Mrs. Wortham brought back to the council a Revised Proposal for Default Grade for “Drop with Penalty.”  The council requested Dr. Richard Gunasekera take the proposal to the Faculty Senate for review and recommendation. 

  • Instructional Technology/Online Issues and Updates

--Joe Ferguson announced he was hosting a MITC technology group meeting with all four campuses to address technology issues for the two centers. 

--Chari Norgard brought to the attention of the council that Bev Hoerig and Na Wu are hosting come-and-go technology workshops. 

--University blogs were discussed with Mr. Ferguson offering to write a set of guidelines for the council to review at the next Academic Council meeting. 

  • Fort Bend Issues and Updates

--Dr. Rice announced possible UHV partnership opportunities with Mr. Tom Underwood, of South Texas Nuclear Plant, and also with Dr. John Ray, of Brazosport Community College. 

  • Other

--Mrs. Wortham shared with the council wording that would be added to catalog concerning transfer credit.   

Courses taken at an institution that has only
national, professional or specialized accreditation
will apply to the Bachelor of Applied Arts and
Sciences and Nursing degree programs only, and
will not apply to other degrees.  Only accreditation
bodies recognized by the Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) will be accepted. 

--Provost LaBrecque brought to the council a student suggestion concerning GRE requirement.  This item was discussed and will be brought back to the agenda. 

II. Specific Agenda 

  • Student Issue

--  SEQ CHAPTER \h \r 1Material concerning a student matter was distributed to the Academic Council.  This item will be returned to the council for further consideration.   

  • Faculty Development Grant Requests and Reports

--Due to time constraints, no Faculty Development Grants items were discussed.  These items will be included in the upcoming 11/15/06 AC Agenda.
