Academic Council Minutes, September 21, 2005I. Minutes --Not addressed II. General Agenda · Guests --Members of the Undergraduate Affairs and Graduate Studies Committees were present for a review of the curricular approval process and program initiatives. o Dean Bullock indicated new program proposals for undergraduate health-care administration; MS in Economic Development and Entrepreneurship; and a global option for the MBA; also some prerequisite changes. o Dean Di Leo indicated possible off-campus initiatives for General Psychology and Criminal Justice. --Liz Branch was present to report on PeopleSoft developments. The financial aid package is scheduled to go live in February 07, followed by student records, student financials and advising in March 07, with admissions coming along for the Spring of 08. These packages will be limited to the basics. There was discussion of considering a third-party supplier for an advising package more adaptable to UHV’s needs. UH is also looking at that option, and so collaboration may be possible. · Data Collection --Fall enrollment count is now 2,491 (a record but 17 under budget) and credit hours, 18,246, which is 427 under budget). · Instructional Technology/Online Issues and Updates --No report, other than on hurricane preparations. · Fort Bend Issues and Updates --No report III. Specific Agenda --Provost will handle faculty requests and student appeals with individual deans, owing to emergency situation and need for members to go to a called meeting on that. Note: --A student appeal was referred to the SoBA. --The following Faculty Development conference requests and report were approved, with research requests being held for the next AC meeting. o A development grant for conference presentation ($1,000) to Dr. Vera Adamchik to present at the 2005 International Business and Economics Research Conference, in Las Vegas, NV, in October. o A development grant for conference presentation ($1,000) to Dr. Yong Glasure to present at the Missouri Valley Economic Association 49th Annual Meeting, in Kansas City, Mo, in October. o A development grant for conference presentation ($200) to Dr. Mary Mayorga to the 49th Annual Texas Counseling Association Professional Growth Conference, in El Paso, TX, in November. o A development grant for conference presentation ($500) to Dr. Mary Natividad to the 49th Annual Texas Counseling Association Professional Growth Conference, in El Paso, TX, in November. o A development grant for conference presentation ($1,000) to Dr. Kathryn Oden to the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision Conference, in Pittsburgh, PA, in October, and a grant ($200) to present at the 49th Annual Texas Counseling Association Professional Growth Conference, in El Paso, TX, in November. o Accepted a grant funded research report from Dr. Yong Glasure.
