·        Data Collection 

--Summer headcount is 1,673 and credit hours 9,451, compared to 1,493 and 8,218 last summer. 

·        Instructional Technology/Online Issues 

--Chari Norgard noted that ETS had asked whether UHV wanted to be a test site for the TExES, now that ETS has become the new provider.   

·        Fort Bend Issues and Updates 

--Implications of UH creating a branch campus in NW Houston at the site of the former Compac computer operations were discussed. 

III. Specific Agenda 

·        Faculty Development Requests and Reports

--Approved a request of Dr. Kathryn Kohlhaas for a research grant ($624) to conduct research to contribute to the dialogue concerning the characteristics of highly qualified teachers and the manner in which they are trained.

-- Approved a request of Dr. Teresa Le Sage for a research grant ($624) to conduct research to contribute to the dialogue concerning the characteristics of highly qualified teachers and the manner in which they are trained.

--Approved a request of Dr. Hsin-Hui Lin for a research grant ($510) to conduct a study on how gender and poverty affects children’s language development.

-- Approved a request of Dr. Mary Natividad for a research grant ($624) to conduct research to contribute to the dialogue concerning the characteristics of highly qualified teachers and the manner in which they are trained.

-- Approved a request of Dr. Marie Plemons for a research grant ($624) to conduct research to contribute to the dialogue concerning the characteristics of highly qualified teachers and the manner in which they are trained.

-- Accepted a grant funded research report from Dr. Joseph Ben-Ur.

·        Other

--Revised wording intended to clarify standards for graduate study was approved.  It was noted that concerns about the substance of the policy should be addressed through the governance structure, as usual.  The change in wording was simply to clarify the current policy, as best that could be interpreted.
