Academic Council Minutes, November 4, 2002
I. General Agenda
--The provost distributed samples of
admissions approval letters provided by the registrar, who had noted
that student email addresses are considered directory information. However, employer information may be a different matter.
Mr. Phillips indicated he would check into whether students’
employers could be provided for information purposes.
--In the absence of Joe Ferguson and Chari
Norgard, there was no report on technology matters.
II. Specific
Agenda
--The Council considered two
appeals. One was for
graduation under an earlier catalog and removal of an “I” grade. The other was for allowing a student to use a graduate course
more than ten years old. The
Council referred these to the Dean of Arts and Sciences for resolution.
- Faculty
Development Conference Presentation Requests and Reports
--Approved a request of Dr.
Mel Damodaran, for a travel grant ($400) to present at the Information
Systems Education Conference 2002, in San Antonio, TX, in October.
--Approved a request of Dr.
Jeffrey Di Leo, for a travel grant ($750) to present at the Modern
Language Association of America 2002 Convention, in New York City, NY, in
December.
--Approved a request of Dr.
Xavier Garza Gomez, for a submission fee ($50) for publication in the Global
Finance Journal.
--Accepted reports on
grant-funded travel from Dr. Sanjiv Behl, Jianjun Du, and Dr. Jifu Wang.
--The provost reported than
a concern expressed about responsiveness of the Human Subject Committee
appeared to have been addressed.
