Academic Council Minutes of October 22, 2001
I. General Agenda
The standing agenda was deferred, so that the Council could meet with
Sandy Frieden, Executive Director of CampusNet, and Debra Butts, Director
of UH System at Cinco Ranch, who had traveled from Houston to meet with
the Council. A variety of questions and issues were discussed, including
the following
- Progress in hiring staff for Cinco Ranch A technician has been hired
and is training at the Sugar Land center. Hiring of an advisor,
counselor, and secretary is in progress. Hiring of a night manager is
anticipated, along with a second technician.
- Video rooms Three are available. A fourth is hoped for by next year.
- AAS group A change in organization has been proposed and is under
review.
- Scheduling The same time slots will be followed as exist at Sugar
Land. The draft Cinco schedule will be mailed to the deans.
- Articulation This remains a process about which there is some
confusion and one that works imperfectly, particularly with regard to
communications. It was noted that institutions do the off-campus part
of their schedule toward the end of the process, resulting in a rush
at the end. It was also noted that as enrollments have increased and
the support burdens have therefore decreased, some institutions appear
to be abandoning collaboration and seeking to secure the entire
enrollment in programs in which the institution has the lead. This
practice is contrary to the principle underlying the collaborative
effort and to understandings reached regarding the articulation of
courses and programs, as well as the sharing of enrollments.
II. Specific Agenda

specially called meeting.
