Council Minutes, September 18, 2000
Academic Affairs: --Met with Academic Affairs Committee to review curricular approval process and preview possible course/program changes. Faculty Development Grants: --Approved a request of Dr. Dan Jaeckle for a travel grant ($827) to present at the Fourteenth Biennial Renaissance Conference, in Dearborn, MI, in October. --Approved a request of Dr. Donald Loffredo for a travel grant ($905) to present at the National Communication Association Convention, in Seattle, WA, in November. Note: Reconfirmed that Faculty Development funds may not be used for individual memberships. Reconfirmed that grant funds cannot be awarded for the past fiscal year or if no request is submitted in advance. Other matters: --Discussed whether scholarships should be designated for international students. Concluded existing and general scholarship funds should not be set aside for or restricted to international students. However, it would be beneficial to increase the number of competitive academic scholarships of $1,000.00 or more (for which all students could compete). Also, donors with a particular interest in providing scholarships for international students should be encouraged to do so. --Approved an addition to the catalog to the effect that students who have completed upper-level requirements under one catalog would remain under it even if they had lower-level work to complete. --Discussed the need for attention to the issue of refunds for courses that begin after the scheduled opening of the semester. The registrar will set up a meeting to address this issue. DNS/kw |
