Agreements Involving Joint and Dual Academic Awards: UHV Polices and Procedures
Collaborative and/or Contractual Agreements for Awarding Academic Credits or Degrees
Collaborative academic arrangements are agreements between institutions accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and accredited or non-accredited degree-granting institutions of higher education throughout the world for purposes of awarding academic credits and /or education program completion credentials, e.g., certificates, diplomas, degrees or transcripts.
At the University of Houston-Victoria, discussion for such arrangements may be initiated by individual faculty, but should continue along the following process:
1. Initial discussions with potential partners should result in documentation that
a. The potential partner is fully accredited by its regional or national accrediting body
b. The potential partnership involves parallel or associated programs at each institution
c. Faculty at potential partner institution have qualifications parallel to faculty at UHV
2. A draft proposal of the agreement is drafted by the potential partners and presented to the appropriate academic dean. The draft proposal should include:
a. Participating programs and/or degrees
b. Required faculty involvement
c. Potential costs to UHV
d. Curriculum revisions
e. Time frame of agreement
f. Resulting certificates or degrees, and the institutions granting them
g. Institutional accreditations
h. Faculty qualifications
i. A program assessment plan
3. The Dean presents the proposal to the Provost and other stakeholders
4. The Provost reviews the proposal and sends to the UH System Legal Offices for review and approval
5. The Dean works with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness to provide notifications or apply for approval to SACS-COC.
6. The Provost approves and sends to the President for final approval.
7. The President provides final approval.
8. The CEOs of all participating institutions must sign the agreement before the program can be implemented.
