Top 10% Scholarship
All qualifying students who submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)** or the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA) and have financial need may be eligible if they enroll fulltime in a Texas public college or university in the fall semester.
If the student is classified as a junior or senior with a declared major in a critical workforce shortage field (teaching shortage area, nursing, allied health, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), the student may be eligible for a bonus of $2,000. The total award amount for students with declared majors in shortage fields may not exceed $4,000.
Initial Eligibility Requirements (contingent upon available funding)
- Be a Texas resident
- Be registered with Selective Service or be exempt from registration
- Demonstrate financial need (to be determined by the college or university financial aid office)
- Complete a 2011-2012 FAFSA or TASFA (if applicable)
- Complete Recommended or Distinguished Achievement High School curriculum
- Rank in the top 10 percent (as of his/her 7th semester or 6th if the college uses that semester for admissions)
- Graduate from an accredited high school in Texas
- Enroll fulltime in a Texas public 2-year or 4-year college or university in fall 2011
- Complete 30 semester credit hours (SCH) in the previous year
- Maintain cumulative 3.25 GPA
- Complete at least 75% of hours attempted
- Complete 30 semester credit hours (SCH) in the previous year
- Maintain cumulative 3.0 GPA
- Complete at least 75% of hours attempted
