The
University of Houston-Victoria institutional scholarship
program is administered through the Office of Financial Aid
with guidance from the UHV
Financial Aid & Scholarship
Committee.

How to
Apply for Scholarships
To be considered
for a
state or institutional scholarship, a student must complete the following
steps:

Annually, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid
(FAFSA) each academic year. (FOR NEED-BASED SCHOLARSHIPS ONLY)

Annually, complete the UHV Scholarship Application.
Follow the priority deadlines for turning in the application.

Complete any additional paperwork that the Office
of Financial Aid deems necessary to establish your financial need if
applying for need-based scholarships. You will be notified in
PeopleSoft if additional documents are requested.

Apply and be
admitted to UH-Victoria.
General Eligibility
Requirements
To be eligible for
need-based scholarships, an applicant must:
Be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. National or eligible non-citizen,
Demonstrate documented need for need-based financial assistance,
Be in good academic standing and maintain satisfactory academic
progress toward an eligible degree or certificate program,
Enroll as a regular student in an eligible
program,

Must be making Satisfactory Academic Progress,
-
Must meet enrollment status requirements,
-
Have registered with the Selective Service if male,
Not be in default on any educational loan or owe a refund on any
educational grant,
Not been convicted of possession or sale of drugs
while enrolled and receiving Title IV Financial Aid, and
Have a valid social security number.
How to Accept A Scholarship Award
Award notices are sent to your UHV
email account. You will need to log into PeopleSoft /
UHV Self Service / Financial Aid / Accept or Decline Awards.

Scholarship
Disbursement Process
The
scholarships are disbursed after
enrollment
and eligibility verification is reviewed
on a student by student basis.
Scholarships will be credited
toward the student’s university account after all required
documentation
is received and aid has been
accepted, declined, or modified in PeopleSoft.
If the student’s enrollment status is activated (at least
the minimum amount due on the fee bill is paid OR the
awarded aid is more than the minimum due), the
scholarship will be credited
toward the student’s account no earlier than the first day
of class. Any resulting credit
balance will be issued in the form of a refund check.
State and
Agency Scholarships
A number of scholarships
are awarded through regional agencies, organizations and special appropriations
from the State of Texas.
Fifth Year Accounting Student Scholarship
Criteria: Students
must have at least 120 credit hours, be a Texas resident, applying to take
the CPA exam within a year, and must be meeting satisfactory academic
progress. The scholarship award is the lesser of the student’s financial
need or $5000.
Disbursement: Checks
are processed by UHV after enrollment verification and academic progress is
reviewed.
Early High
School Graduation Scholarship
Criteria:
- Graduate from a Texas public high school on or after
09/01/2003
- Have completed either the recommended high school
curriculum or the distinguished achievement high school
curriculum* in no more than 36 consecutive months**
- Have attended high school in Texas only and
- Are Texas residents.
*A student graduating high school after
09/01/2003 who does not satisfy the high school
curriculum requirement will be considered to have
satisfied those requirements if the high school from
which the student graduates notes on the student's
transcript that the student was unable to complete
the appropriate curriculum within the time allowed
because the necessary courses were unavailable due
to course scheduling, lack of enrollment capacity or
another cause not in the student's control.
**For students graduating after 09/01/2003, the
maximum time allowed to complete the requirements for
grades 9 - 12 may be extended to 41 months (with a
lesser award); or to 46 consecutive months if the
student also graduates with at least 30 hours of college
credit.
License Plate Insignia Scholarship
Criteria: An
individual must demonstrate financial need, are Texas residents and are
enrolled at least half-time.
Disbursement:
Checks are processed by UHV after enrollment verification and academic
progress is reviewed.
Agency and
Organization Scholarships
Agency scholarships are
scholarships awarded by outside organizations and clubs. Some applications are
available in the Office of Financial Aid. You can sign up for
some scholarship searches that are listed in the UHV Financial Aid Related Links
web page.
State Exemption and
Waiver Programs
The
Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board
provides over
40 tuition
exemption and waiver programs to students pending qualifications. The Office
of Financial Aid has a listing for you to review. The Bursar's Office
credits the student’s account when he or she is eligible for the exemption or
waiver.
Access to Success
Scholarship and the Educational Aide Program
The objective of the
Access to Success Scholarship and the Educational Aide Program is to provide
funding for
public school employees to obtain a bachelor’s degree
leading to elementary or secondary certification.
How to apply: Complete
the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB)
Educational Aide Exemption application and the UHV
Scholarship Application. In addition, provide a copy of your most recent
tax return and your spouse’s return, if applicable, OR
complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
A separate
THECB
Educational Aid
Exemption application must be completed for the summer sessions.
The Office of Financial
Aid will process your
Educational
Aide Exemption application after receiving all other required documents.
After the student’s financial need analysis is complete, the application will be
forwarded to the THECB to seek
approval for the exemption. The Office will also check to see if the student is
admitted and that the student’s major is Bachelor of Science in
Interdisciplinary Studies. If the student is admitted and seeking secondary
certification, the student must give the Office of Financial Aid a copy of his
or her degree plan showing teacher certification in their designated program.
If the student is
eligible for the exemption, the student may receive the tuition and fee
exemption and an Access to Success Scholarship worth $100 per course
(2 course max.) to use for books, supplies, or other educational expenses
subject to fund availability.
All scholarships are
subject to fund availability. Approval or disapproval from the
THECB must be received EACH semester in order to be eligible for the Access
to Success Scholarship and waiver.
