Access to Success Scholarship and the Educational Aide Program
The objective of the Access to Success Scholarship and the Educational Aide Program is to provide funding for public school employees to obtain a bachelor’s degree leading to elementary or secondary certification.
How to apply: Complete the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) Educational Aide Exemption application and the UHV Scholarship Application. In addition, provide a copy of your most recent tax return and your spouse's return, if applicable, OR complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
A separate THECB | Educational Aid Exemption application must be completed for the summer sessions.
The Office of Financial Aid will process your Educational Aide Exemption application after receiving all other required documents. After the student’s financial need analysis is complete, the application will be forwarded to the THECB to seek approval for the exemption. The Office will also check to see if the student is admitted and that the student’s major is Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies. If the student is admitted and seeking secondary certification, the student must give the Office of Financial Aid a copy of his or her degree plan showing teacher certification in their designated program.
If the student is eligible for the exemption, the student may receive the tuition and fee exemption and an Access to Success Scholarship worth $100 per course (2 course max.) to use for books, supplies, or other educational expenses subject to fund availability.
All scholarships are subject to fund availability. Approval or disapproval from the THECB must be received EACH semester in order to be eligible for the Access to Success Scholarship and waiver.
