How To Apply
General Eligibility
Requirements
To be eligible for student aid, an applicant must:
Be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. National or eligible non-citizen,
Demonstrate documented need for need-based financial assistance,
Be in good academic standing and maintain satisfactory academic progress
toward an eligible degree or certificate program,
Enroll as a
regular student in an eligible program,

Must be making Satisfactory Academic
Progress,
-
Must meet enrollment status requirements,
-
Have registered with the Selective
Service if male,
Not be in default on any educational loan or owe a refund on any educational grant,
Not been convicted of possession or sale of drugs, and
Have a valid social security number.

Checklist
STUDENTS APPLYING
FOR NON-NEED INSTITUTIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS ONLY:
Complete and
submit a 2008-2009 UHV Scholarship Application annually.
Return the form to the Office of
Financial Aid.
Complete the
Post Baccalaureate Certification Form, if you are classified
as a Post Baccalaureate Student.
Secure approval for
admission or readmission to UHV through the Office of
Admissions and
Records.
STUDENTS APPLYING
FOR FEDERAL, STATE, AND INSTITUTIONAL FINANCIAL AID:
All Financial
Aid forms must be on file and reflect correct information no
later than the last class day of the semester for which you
are applying. You cannot receive payment if you are not
currently enrolled. You must:
Complete and
submit the 2008-2009 Free Application for Federal Student
Aid (FAFSA) to the Department of Education at
www.fafsa.ed.gov.
Complete and
submit a 2008-2009 UHV Scholarship Application to the Office
of Financial Aid to be considered for scholarships.

Provide your Permanent Resident Card in person, if
you are classified as an eligible non-citizen of
the United States so a University official can
authenticate the card and make a copy of
your financial aid file.
Secure approval for
admission or readmission to UHV through the Office of
Admissions and
Records.
KEEP CHECKING YOUR FINANCIAL AID APPLICATION PROCESS
PERIODICALLY ON AWARDS BY WEB. AFTER THE FINANCIAL AID
STAFF REVIEW THE INITIAL PAPERWORK, ADDITIONAL FORMS AND
DOCUMENTS MAY BE REQUESTED.
IN ADDITION
TO THE ABOVE FORMS:
If you are
interested in applying for a Federal Stafford Student Loan,
answer yes to the question on the FAFSA. If you have
previously answered no or rejected a loan offered on
Loans By Web®, then you must complete and submit a Federal
Student Loan Request to the Office of Financial Aid.
If you have
not previously received a Federal loan through UHV
or it has been more than 90 days since you have guaranteed
your last loan, you must complete the counseling on the web at
www.mapping-your-future.org
.
If you drop
below half-time, withdraw, or graduate, you must sign up for
Loan Exit Counseling in the Office of Financial Aid or
complete the counseling on the web at
www.mapping-your-future.org.
You will be
required to provide the following information if your
Financial Aid Application is selected for Federal
Verification. You have 45 days after the required
documentation is requested or the last class day of the
semester for which you are applying, whichever is first, to
provide the needed documents for verification.
A
SIGNED
copy of your (and your parents’ if a dependent student) 2007
Income Tax Return (1040, 1040A, 1040X, or 1040EZ) and W-2
forms.
2008-2009 Verification Worksheet
(Independent or Dependent)
If you are
classified as a Post Baccalaureate Student, complete the
Post Baccalaureate Certification Form.
Submit a
College Work-Study application if you are interested in
employment opportunities on campus or in the community.
Review the
Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy and the Return of
Title IV Funds Policy in the UHV Catalog.

Students who co-enroll can complete the Consortium Agreement
form and provide a copy of the Paid Fee receipt from the
other school. The student's financial Aid aid package
can then be awarded based on the hours at UHV and the
consortium school.
PLEASE NOTE: NO FINANCIAL AID WILL BE AWARDED UNTIL ALL REQUIRED
FORMS ARE ON FILE.

Summer Financial Aid
Please follow the instructions on
how to apply for summer financial aid.
1. Log
into PeopleSoft.
2.
Click on UHV Student Self-Service.
3.
Click on Financial Aid.
4.
Click on the UHV FA Summer Form option. Answer the
questions and click on SAVE.
The
priority deadline for submitting this data is March 15,
2008. Pell Grants and Stafford Loans are available to those
that still have eligibility (*students who have not received
the maximum annual award limit in the fall and spring
semesters). Some state and institutional funds may also be
available. See “How to Apply” instructions to ensure all
necessary 2007-08 paperwork has been submitted:

Even
though the Summer Course Schedule will not be available
until April, please let the Office of Financial Aid know if
you are interested in attending UHV this summer. If you are
co-enrolled, remember to complete the consortium agreement
form and send in with the PAID FEE RECEIPT which shows the
classes you are taking in the summer sessions. The
Consortium Agreement partners are: Victoria College,
Wharton County Junior College, Austin Community College,
Coastal Bend College, Houston Community College. The UHV
