Admission Information: How to Apply
Former Applicants
If you have applied to UHV or attended UHV in the past, please DO NOT apply through Apply Texas again. Submit an Update to Admission Application form to the Office of Admissions.
Admission Requirements
In order to be considered for admission a student must submit official documents required for each program of study. A summary of documents is listed below. This list may not be complete depending on your specific degree program. Transcripts and test scores sent electronically may speed the admissions process.
All students attending the University of Houston-Victoria must be proficient in the use of English. Students, regardless of immigration status, whose educational instruction has not been in the English language and/or whose first or native language is not English, must demonstrate English proficiency by submitting appropriate TOEFL or IELTS scores, or meet one of the exceptions listed in the UHV course catalog. For a list of the exceptions, see English Proficiency and TOEFL under Admissions in the left column on this page.
Freshman - First Time Enrolled
- A completed application for undergraduate admission.
- An applicant who graduated or will graduate from a U.S. high school (accredited, non-accredited, or home school) or earned a GED certificate must meet 2 of the 3 following requirements to be eligible for the regular admission:
- Rank in the top 50% of the graduating senior class. (Not applicable to GED or home schooled students.)
- Overall high school grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Minimum score of 18 on the Enhanced American College Test (ACT), OR a minimum score of 860 on the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) Reasoning Tests [critical reading and math sections].
- Completion of Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requirements.
- Students under the age of 30 must submit proof of Bacterial Meningitis Immunization prior to registering for courses.
High School transcripts should show class rank, grade point average, and date of graduation. Seniors who apply early may submit transcript prior to graduation and follow-up with completed final transcript after graduation. Some high schools may send electronic transcripts.
Home-schooled students are required to take and submit either the ACT or SAT exam and meet 2 of the 3 requirements listed above. Home-schooled transcripts should show the high school courses completed and in progress, explanation of grades, grade point average, and any honors. The transcript must include the signature of the principal.
A permanent resident alien who has completed two or more years in, and graduated from, a U.S. high school is required to meet the admission requirements established for U.S. citizens.
International students seeking or holding an F1 student visa must complete all admission requirements in addition to the visa-related requirements prior to being issued an I-20 document. Additional international student requirements may be found on the International Admissions web page.
Undergraduate Transfer
Students with 12 or more semester credit hours of college credit, other than high school advanced/dual credit from an institution accredited by one of the six recognized regional accrediting associations are considered to be transfer students.
- A completed application for undergraduate admission.
- An official transcript from EACH college attended, sent directly from each institution to UH-Victoria. (Request electronic submission, if possible.)
- Minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale in all non-remedial college level coursework
- Completion of Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requirements or show college readiness according to provisions of the TSI and UHV.
- Students under the age of 30 must submit proof of Bacterial Meningitis Immunization prior to registering for courses.
Transient (Visiting) Undergraduate Students - One Full Term Only
- A completed application for undergraduate admission with Non-degree seeking major specified.
- Provide proof of one of the following: Letter of proof of enrollment in good standing from current university enrolled in, OR an official transcript from the current university enrolled in.
- Limited to one (1) full term of study only.
- Students under the age of 30 must submit proof of Bacterial Meningitis Immunization prior to registering for courses.
UH-System Student Pathways Program
The University of Houston System Student Pathways Program is designed to make all UH System institutions accessible to all undergraduate UH system students. Through this program, an undergraduate student in any of the four UH System universities, with the approval of their academic department, is able to take up to six hours of courses toward their degree, at any of the four UH-System universities. - A completed application for postbaccalaureate admission.
- An official transcript from all institutions previously attended (mailed directly from the institution to UH-Victoria). Transcript must have prior degree(s) posted, or applicant must provide degree confirmation certificate.
- Students under the age of 30 must submit proof of Bacterial Meningitis Immunization prior to registering for courses.
Temporary Graduate
To be eligible for admission under the temporary graduate classification in the graduate career, a student must have at least a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution but not be admitted to a graduate program at UHV. Students seeking graduate admission into the Master of Arts in Psychology and the Master of Science in Nursing may not apply for temporary graduate admission.
- A completed application for graduate admission.
- An official transcript from all institutions previously attended (mailed directly from the institution to UH-Victoria). Transcript must have prior degree(s) posted, or applicant must provide degree confirmation certificate.
- Students under the age of 30 must submit proof of Bacterial Meningitis Immunization prior to registering for courses.
- A completed application for graduate admission.
- An official transcript from EACH college attended (mailed directly from each institution to UH-Victoria).
- Some graduate programs have designated specific terms for entry (such as the Master of Arts in Psychology program which begins in Fall term only), essay / letter of recommendation requirements, and deadlines for program admission. Refer to the Academic School web page for specific information regarding entry to the graduate program you choose.
- Appropriate exam scores must be mailed directly from the Educational Testing Service to UH-Victoria. The GRE aptitude [verbal and quantitative sections only] is required for most majors. Some exceptions are:
- Business students may substitute GMAT
- Counseling Education students may substitute MAT
- Master of Science in Nursing students must submit the HSRT.
Deadlines
- With the exception of International Student Admissions, there are no specific deadlines for applications for admission; however, credentials should be received as early as possible to ensure time for processing before registration.
- International student admission deadline is eight weeks prior to the first day of class.
