A.J. Ortega is a writer, motorcyclist, and Lecturer of English. He is originally from El Paso, Texas but has lived all over the Lone Star state. His research interests are in the area of popular culture, which includes hip-hop, film, television, and professional wrestling. He writes short fiction inspired by growing up in the American Southwest, specifically on the U.S-Mexico border. When he isn’t teaching English courses, he enjoys wrenching on cars and motorcycles. He even moonlights as a professional wrestling referee on the independent circuit in south Texas. His classes are comprised of reading and writing practice, as well as discussions and essay writing that centers on various societal issues that range from popular forms of storytelling, technology, social media, gender, race, and ethnicity.
