Hispanic Heritage Art Contest

In celebration of Hispanic heritage Month, UHV & VC  hosted an art contest for Victoria area middle school students (6th  - 8th grades).

The art pieces were judged on June 24, 2008 by members of Club Sembradores de Amistad of Victoria.  First place went to Matthew Durham, an eighth grade student at Howell Middle School.  His art teacher is Mrs. Blanca Sanchez.  The second and third place winners will be announced on September 16, 2008 at a reception that will be held at the UHV Multi-Purpose Room from 4 – 6pm to honor all participating students.

Works represented the student’s illustration of Hispanic Culture.  First place winner received a two year scholarship to VC and a two year scholarship to UHV.  The second place winner  received a $1,000 scholarship and the third place winner received a $500 scholarship compliments of the Minority Business Council of Victoria.

The art work will be displayed in the UHV Center building during Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 – October 15).  Copies of the first place winning piece will be displayed in local businesses supporting the UHV Victoria Alliance for Latino Education (VALE) Hispanic Heritage Month Activities.
