Heritage Art Contest
In celebration of Hispanic heritage
Month, UHV & VC hosted an art contest for Victoria area
middle school students (6th - 8th
grades).
The art pieces were judged on June 24,
2008 by members of Club Sembradores de Amistad of Victoria.
First place went to Matthew Durham, an eighth grade student
at Howell Middle School. His art teacher is Mrs. Blanca
Sanchez. The second and third place winners will be
announced on September 16, 2008 at a reception that will be
held at the UHV Multi-Purpose Room from 4 – 6pm to honor all
participating students.
Works represented the student’s
illustration of Hispanic Culture. First place winner
received a two year scholarship to VC and a two year
scholarship to UHV. The second place winner received a
$1,000 scholarship and the third place winner received a
$500 scholarship compliments of the Minority Business
Council of Victoria.
The art work will be displayed in the
UHV Center building during Hispanic Heritage Month
(September 15 – October 15). Copies of the first place
winning piece will be displayed in local businesses
supporting the UHV Victoria Alliance for Latino Education
(VALE) Hispanic Heritage Month Activities.
