Getting Started

Student accounts are automatically created and provide access to student email, on-site access to the computer labs and off-site access to the library databases.

If your account was created before March 15 and you have have NEVER logged into UHV Student Email before, your password will be your date of birth in the format of MMDDYYYY.

Beginning March 15, 2010, new accounts will have the password set to "mmddyyx!" where:

  • mm is the student's two digit birth month
  • dd is the student's two digit birth day
  • yy is the student's two digit birth year
  • x is the first character of the student's last name in lowercase-letter format
  • ! is the exclamation point character or Shift+1 on the keyboard

This initial password is pre-expired.

Student account passwords for returning students are not reset. However, the life of a password is 90 days. This means that students are required to change their passwords every 90 days based on the date of their last password change.

If you are a new student with a pre-expired password or a returning student whose password has expired, you must change your password in order to access your student email or remotely access the library databases.

Passwords can be changed on-site in the labs or remotely via the email server.
NOTE: Your new password must meet the following restrictions or conditions:

  • The password is at least eight characters long
  • The password contains characters from each of the following three categories:
    • Alphabetic characters, uppercase or lowercase (A - Z, a - z)
    • Base 10 digits (0 - 9)
    • Special Characters: ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( )

  • The password cannot contain the user's account name or parts of the user's full name that exceed two consecutive characters.

To login and change your password remotely, follow the steps below:

It might be helpful to print the instructions so you can follow along as you login.

If you need assistance, please send an email message via Request Help. Please include your full name and your student number. DO NOT include private information such as your social security number, date of birth, or password.
