Email Frequently Asked Questions
In the examples below, your-username is your seven-digit PeopleSoft (PS) ID.
Common Problems
-
Some browsers pre-fill the username field with mail.uhv.edu. If so, delete it.
-
If there is no domain field on the login screen, you must enter your username as uhv\your-username. Make sure you use the backslash (\), not the forward slash (/).
-
On the Internet Service Manager screen, you must enter Account as uhv\your-username.
Q. My email was working last semester, but now I can"t login.
A. New student accounts are created with the passwords set to the students' date of birth in the format of MMDDYYYY and are pre-expired. Passwords on returning student accounts are not reset, but expire every 160 days. If you are a new student with a pre-expired password or a returning student with an expired password, you must change your password in order to activate your account. To change your password remotely via the web, see Logging in via the web.
Q. When I try to change my password via the web, it says that the parameter is incorrect.
A. On the Internet Service Manager page, where you are prompted to enter a new password, there is not a separate field for domain. In order to specify the domain, you need to enter your "Account" as:
uhv\your-username
Also, the new password must be a minimum of eight characters, and you can not re-use your previous nine passwords.
Q. I have tried to login to the library with my username and date of birth as my password, but it doesn"t work.
A. The Library uses your student account for authentication. New student accounts are created with pre-expired passwords. This means you must change your password from your date of birth to a new password before your account can be used to access the library. Changing your password activates your account. To change your password remotely via the web, you must login to the Student Email Server. See Logging In via the Web for instructions on how to login and change your password.
Please note that passwords on returning student accounts are not reset, but expire every 160 days. If you are a returning student with an expired password, you must change your password in order to activate your account. To change your password remotely via the web, see Logging in Via the Web.
