McAfee Virus Update/Upgrade Information

IT is currently installing McAfee VirusScan Enterprise edition, version 7.0 on all computers. The software is preconfigured to automatically update the virus definition (DAT) files at 9am each morning.  DAT files ensure that your virus protection is constantly updated as cures for new virus threats are published.

NOTE:  Your computer must be active (running) to run an update task. If your computer is not operating when the task is scheduled to start, the task starts at the next scheduled time if the computer is active, or when the computer starts if you selected the Run missed task option on the Schedule Settings, Schedule tab.

If your computer does not have McAfee VirusScan installed, you can download it at www.uh.edu. Click on “Faculty” or “Administration and Staff”, and then click on “Computing”. Then select “Anti-virus”, and click on the “VirusScan Enterprise 7.0” link. When you receive the “File download – Security Warning” screen, click on “Run”, and follow the directions.

The Helpdesk also can send a CD copy with instructions if you prefer.

Call the UHV Helpdesk at Ext. 399 (361-570-4399 from off campus) if you have questions or need assistance.
