I received an email that is known to contain a virus. Is my computer now infected? If so, what should I do.

 

 

Answer


 

Not necessarily. Most viruses are transferred via an attachment file. If you do not open these attachments, your computer is probably not infected. However, it is a good idea to run the McAfee VirusScan program. Be sure you have run the virus definition file update (see note below). Then click on Start/Programs/Network Associates/VirusScan. Now select the Scan Now button. This will take a few minutes, so plan to do this when you do not need the computer for a while.

NOTE: It is very important to keep your virus definition files updated. A current definition file is available at:
