UHV
Online Courses: What Are Students Saying? |
Find out what our students have to say about UHV
online courses. Results from the survey that Dr. Andria
Young and Chari Norgard ran in Fall 2004 will be presented.
Faculty from all three schools allowed the survey
to be distributed through their online classes. 233
out of 913 students (25% response rate) responded
to the survey questions and provided a lot of additional
comments, up to 50 comments per survey question.

Library
Resources: Copyright, Electronic Reserves, Databases and
Plagiarism |
Copyright is a constantly moving target and distance
learning provides its own challenges as publishing
and distribution take on different meanings in the
context of education. Part one of this workshop offers
a practical approach to identifying and addressing
copyright issues for faculty who are integrating technologies
into their teaching, including Vista and electronic
reserves. In part two of the workshop, you will learn
about the databases and other library resources that
are available to faculty and students for classroom
and research needs. Finally, in the third component
of this workshop the librarians will share techniques
that they use for detecting plagiarism in student
papers and discuss strategies for faculty to consider
that could discourage students from plagiarizing others'
work.

Using
WebQuests to Promote Critical Thinking |
The WebQuest model provides structure and guidance
for those designing a learning activity that promotes
thinking beyond the basic read and recall, while making
good use of the Internet. In this workshop we will
discuss ways to integrate WebQuests into your course
activities and examine a number of examples. You will
have an opportunity to build your own WebQuest using
the structure outlined in the WebQuest model.
