CampusNet Online Workshop
The CampusNet
Online Workshop (COW) is an annual training event for
faculty of the 4 UH System campuses, introducing them to instructional
design strategies, facilitation and management techniques,
and supporting technology used in the development and implementation
of online courses.
The presentations and hands-on activities concentrate on
designing and organizing your course content, building supportive
online communities that encourage active participation among
students, and managing course activity. Faculty from a variety
of disciplines (previous COW participants) also share practical
advice and demonstrate techniques they use in courses they
have developed. There are many opportunities to communicate
ideas and best practices among your colleagues.
Hosted by CampusNet
and organized and presented by the Instructional Design
(ID) Collaborative group--instructional designers, web
and media designers, librarians and other support people from
all 4 campuses who assist faculty in their online course development--this
workshop is typically held in May between the spring and summer
semesters.
Faculty who are new to online teaching are especially encouraged
to attend this event. Please contact your Dean for participation
requirements. COW alumni are also encouraged to participate
in the workshop, imparting valuable tips and techniques from
their experience in teaching online. Contact Instructional
Support Services for more information on how you can contribute
to this year’s workshop.

SuperCOW Events
SuperCOW events are mini-workshops scattered throughout the
year, that address a single training topic. Ranging from 2-
to 6-hours, these workshops will cover a variety of topics,
from software training to course design strategies to discipline-specific
dialogues. They are provided free of charge to UH System faculty
and are presented by technical support staff from the hosting
campus. Seating is limited and COW alumni are given first
registration opportunities, whereafter the remaining seats
may be filled with faculty who have not attended previous
COW workshops (May events).
Check back for updates on Upcoming Events. We may also repeat
some of the previous events, so stay tuned.

SnagIt and Camtasia
Friday, February 11, 2005
Learn how you can enhance your presentations or documentation
with customized screenshots, capturing images and text
from your PC desktop using Techsmith’s SnagIt. Capture
everything from a single element, such as a menu item
or image, to a complete window or screen, including any
scrolled regions.
Plus, during this session you will also learn how to
record your PC desktop activity to produce video tutorials
or presentations using Techsmith’s Camtasia. Demonstrate
steps in a complicated process or teach someone how to
use technology with an interactive video recorded from
your desktop activity and then publish your video in a
variety of formats for viewing on the web or on CD.
MathematiCOW
Date/Time to be announced
This session will be the first in a series of semi- discipline-based
workshops, led by faculty to address tools and pedagogical
strategies related to that discipline.
We're starting with a math-related workshop, including
any use of equations. Faculty in many different disciplines,
including Math, Accounting, Economics, Engineering, Education
and more, may have an interest in this workshop.
Erin Hodgess (UHD, Math) and Jeff Morgan (UH, Math) are
corrdinating this event with Sandy Frieden (UHS, CampusNet).
You may contact Sandy Frieden sfrieden@uh.edu
